Methods I used to attract my audience

The methods I used to attract the audience were:• Colours- I used colours that appealed to both genders and were used in

other dance music magazines so I knew they would be good for my magazine. I used a mix of yellow, red and black as shown in the picture as they are all colours that stand out to the audience and will catch people’s eye when they are looking for magazines. They are all quite different colours to each other so it helps them stand out more. In my research I found that these sort of colours were good for my style of magazine so I used them.

• Photography- I used photography that showed the professional side to the music genre as it was all posed, studio shots and not photos of live gigs. I used this style of photography as it would appeal to both genders plus my magazine was aimed at middle class people and I wanted to show the side of the music genre that fitted with this character of audience.

How I addressed my audienceI addressed my audience in an informal way with an informal style of writing and used language which would probably only be understand by fans of the music genre. I used this style of writing so the audience would feel they could relate to it and would enjoy reading it more as usually magazines aren’t written in this style of writing. Here is an example of the writing style I used “He is a new DJ breaking onto the scene, he is just a guy from York bringing a new sound out to the rest of the world”. The photo’s that I took were a mix of relaxed and posed as I feel this represents the dance music style and genre. This helps to appeal to my audience as they will be able to relate to the photos and will be attracted to the magazine more if they can actually relate to them and feel it portrays the music genre suitably. The picture on the bottom left is more relaxed and shows the DJ in action making music whereas the picture on the bottom right is posed and looks more professional. The person in my magazine is wearing quite basic and standard clothes but looks quite posh and middle class which is the audience I am aiming to appeal to so the audience may be more interested as they feel they are similar to the person on my magazine then they could possibly become the next big thing and feature in a magazine if someone who they feel they are similar to has. I used a pair of headphones as my prop as it is something that DJ’s would use and helps him look more like a DJ than just a normal person. As you can see in the picture the headphones makes him look like an actual DJ.
