Award Categories

There are 17 award categories in APICTA 2013. Each award is presented to the most innova9ve ICT product/solu9on entered in that category.

Eligibility

A. Company Eligibility to Nominate •  The Company Eligibility guideline describes the criteria and a]ributes required for a company to be eligible to

submit their entry nomina9on for APICTA Award compe99on. •  A company who is eligible to nominate their Informa9on and Communica9on Technology innova9on must

meet the following criteria: •  The nominee must be locally registered in the respec9ve APICTA member economy. •  The nominee can be a 100% local company; or •  The nominee can be a joint venture between local company and foreign company. A foreign company in a joint

venture can be either company(ies) within that APICTA member economy or company(ies) outside that APICTA member economy. Shareholder(s) within the APICTA member economy must be at least 51% from the total shares.

B. Product Eligibility Nomina6on •  The Product Eligibility guideline describes the criteria and a]ributes for required for a product to be eligible to

be nominated as an entry to APICTA Award compe99on. •  An eligible product for APICTA entry nomina9on must meet the following criteria, •  The Intellectual Property Right for the product must be owned by the company who is eligible to nominate

according the Company Eligibility guideline, or its Intellectual Property Right is owned by offshore parent of the local company where the majority owner share holding is the local company.

•  At least 51% of product development efforts including, research and development and design must be done within APICTA member economy who is submipng the applica9on.

Nomina6on Process

•  Nomina9ons for the 17 Award Categories must be endorsed by the APICTA Alliance representa9ve organiza9ons of the member economies. Only the designated Economy Coordinator has the right to submit nomina9on details.

•  The Economy Coordinator must ensure that all nominees are qualifying for the Awards’ requirements and that each nomina9on is submi]ed to the appropriate award category.

•  Nominee must own the IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) of its entry, or its IPR is owned by offshore parent of the local company where the majority owner shareholding is the local company.

•  Maximum 3 nomina9ons from each economy can be submi]ed per award category. Any entry is strictly prohibited to be enrolled for more than one category except enrolled for non-‐start-‐up entry category and start-‐up category.

•  Submission of finished product is not required for the Secondary/High School and Ter9ary Student Project category. Entries may come in the form of a design or a prototype applica9on. The key requirement is that the entry must be developed en9rely by students.

•  For the Research and Development Category, the entry can be a finished product but not yet ac9vely marketed, or it is already ac9vely marketed but s9ll no customer or installa9on at the customer site yet, provided its marke9ng effort is s9ll less than one year since its product comple9on. Alterna9vely, the entry can be a non-‐finished product but can be demonstrated to show its features and func9onality.

•  Nominees of other Award Categories are required to present evidence that the entry submi]ed is already a finished product.

•  Entries that won APICTA Awards in the previous years should not be re-‐submi]ed, unless new features have been added to the product for the past three years. Nominees should indicate that the entry has won an APICTA award before and iden9fy in the nomina9on write up the new features of the product.

•  The write-‐up for each sec9on must not exceed the number of words allocated.

Judging

The APICTA Award judging is comprehensive process whereby all nomina9ons are assessed by a team of independent judges. Criteria •  Each category is judged on 5 criteria:

–  Uniqueness –  Market Poten9al –  Func9onality / Features –  Quality / Applica9on of Technology –  Presenta9on

•  Each of these criteria has separate guidelines for each category, so for detailed notes on the criteria and its a]ributes for each category, visit the category pages.

Judges •  Each nominee is rigorously assessed by a team of judges of the highest caliber. They are drawn from

government, academia and the industry from each of the APICTA member economies. •  Judging panels usually comprise 3-‐4 judges. Membership of a category panel is determined based on

judges’ preferences. All judges sign confiden9ality agreements and also must declare a conflict of interest should one arise.

Judging

Registra6on for Presenta6on Process •  Each entry nominee must report to the judging secretariat at least 15 minutes before the

scheduled presenta9on 9me is due; •  The judging secretariat will register the entry nominee a]endance and guide them to the wai9ng

room; •  An usher from the organizing commi]ee will guide the entry nominee to the judging room when

their schedule is due. Presenta6on Time •  Each entry nominee will have maximum 35 minutes 9me slot presenta9on to the Judge Panel with

the following es9mate 9me guideline, •  3 minutes for equipment set-‐up •  25 minutes for presenta9on, demo and ques9ons and answers (presenta9on and demo must not

exceed 20 minutes) •  2 minutes to disassemble the presenta9on equipment •  5 minutes for Judges delibera9on. Language •  English is the Mandatory Language to be used for both Judges and Nominees during the judging

process.

Judging

The following format will be adopted for APICTA 2013, Hong Kong: •  All nominees will be given 20 minutes to deliver their presenta9ons with 5 minutes

for Q&A. •  Nine rooms will be allocated for presenta9on by nominees. Nominees will be

assigned to present either on Day 1 (Nov 25) or Day 2 (Nov 26). •  AV system, computer projector and Internet connec9on will be provided in each

presenta9on room. Nominees must bring their own notebook or computer. •  At least 3 (three) judges from different member economies will par9cipate in the

judging in each award category. •  Judges will calculate scores, select winners and obtain final endorsement in the

final mee9ng of the judging panel. Arbitra9on to se]le disagreement regarding scores will be made at the final mee9ng of the judging panel.

•  The decisions made at the final mee9ng of the judging panel will be considered final and binding.

•  The final results will be announced during the Awards Presenta9on Ceremony in Gala Dinner on Nov 27.

Criteria of Winner and Merit

•  Entry with highest Total Score exceeding 7.000 will be the Winner for each category.

•  A maximum of 2 (two) Merits will be given to nominees with score not less than 95% from the Winner and the Total Score must be 6.600 or above.

•  Entry for Secondary/High School and Ter9ary Student Project Category in which the score is 6.600 and above can be awarded as a Merit without restric9on on the total number of Merits.

•  If there is no Winner in one par9cular Category, Merits will be given to nominees with a minimum Total Score In case there is no Winner in one par9cular Category and the Total Score for each Entry Nomina9on from all Judges is less than 6.600. Maximum 1 (one) Merit can be awarded based on the Judges’ professional jus9fica9on.

finalist and showcased your product/service in the interna9onal arena
