• Lack of local plans and strategies – only isolated efforts • Lack of informaBon on dimensions of losses because of depleBon of resources and global warming at local level (long heavy rains) • Lack of research on potenBals of Agroforestry systems • DepleBon of tradiBonal knowledge and naBve plants resources, lack of strategies to maintain these species. • Lack of moBvaBon of local community
Some effects of heavy rains
Zea mays subsp. mays
Preliminary results Campo Hermoso • 15 endangered medicinal species
9 naBve species • 20 dissapeared medicinal species
7 naBve species • Ur#ca dioica L. popularity (IUV)
Zetaquira • 7 endangered medicinal species
3 naBve species • 13 dissapeared medicinal species
6 naBve species • Ruta graveolens L. popularity
Main Objectives • To collect quanBtaBve informaBon on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in tropical small scale farming systems of Boyacá, Colombia. • To analyse the potenBal of agroforestry systems with naBve mulB-‐purpose and medicinal plants to reduce GHG emissions. • To promote the culBvaBon and conservaBon of naBve plant species, especially endangered species. • To add benefits to local producBon of food, medicine and to improve economy.
Hypotheses • The potenBal of Agroforestry systems with culBvaBon of introduced medicinal plant species is equal to Agroforestry systems with culBvaBon of naBve species in terms of miBgaBon of Green House Gas emissions. • NaBve mulBpurpose and medicinal plant species are o_en not culBvated in Agroforestry systems due to the lack of producBvity. • Lack of knowledge of the producBvity that naBve and mulBpurpose medicinal plant species can offer to the local economy has limited investments in projects related to the culBvaBon of these species.
