Normally some of the signs that there is something wrong is when the photos and related apps

fail to open. They will crash and you will get a logo before the desktops comes up again. Some

people even report an apps icon on their taskbar which appears briefly but does not respond to

clicks. You may also notice that the Windows Store and PC Settings app fails to start. Even if it

starts, it soon crashes.

Alternatively you may even get the notorious 0x803F8001 error. This happens when you try to

update your apps in the Windows store. All these are signs that you have a problem with your

modern UI apps, a problem that is becoming more frequent on the Windows 8.1 version. Use

these options to fix the problem:

1 – User Your PowerShell Interface:

Begin by pressing the Windows Key+X. This will open the Quick Links menus which you should tap. Alternatively you can tap on the command prompt but this will require you to have administrator rights through the log-in. Another way is to right click or tap on the Windows logo. This is known as the Start Button in Windows 8.1. You can move the mouse pointer to the bottom of the screen. When you right click on the small start screen button you will get the same screen.

It is important to note that sometimes Windows 8.1 shows the PowerShell items instead of the standard command prompt. This is a default setting. In that case you can type the word “cmd” even without opening the Search charm. Just right click and hold on the command prompt.

Remember to run as an administrator in order to get full access to all the menus.

2 – The Start screen search:

Go to the user account control which is a pop up screen. You will be asked whether you want to run the command prompt. Click the yes button. Type “wsreset” and enter if the only problems that you are experiencing are with the Windows Store only.

These issues could include the inability to check for the install app updates or when the apps that you select are not running.

When you take these steps the system clears the Window Store cache. Ordinarily your app will open in the following seconds. One of the benefits of this method is that you can fix the Live Tiles on a permanent basis. This in effect allows you to see the number of updates that are available.

3 - More Powerful Options:

If you are still receiving problems you should proceed with the following procedures. Right click or tap and hold within the Command Prompt Window. This will then open up a menu with a Paste command. You should then press enter (Note that Ctrl+V shortcut does not work in this interface). The next step is to copy and paste the following string of text: “powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.xml”. Press enter and then follow the prompts. Note that earlier versions of Windows may not work with this advanced option.
