What are social networking sites ?
.
Social networking site is the phrase used to describe any Web site that enables users to create public profiles within that Web site and form relationships with other users of the same Web site who access their profile. Social networking sites can be used to describe community-based Web sites, online discussions forums, chat rooms and other social spaces online.

Disadvantages:-
1. Addiction
Addiction is the continued repetition of a behavior despite adverse consequences,or a neurological impairment leading to such behaviors.
Addictions can include computer addiction and gambling. Classic hallmarks of addiction include impaired control over substances.
Physiological dependence occurs when the body has to adjust to the substance by incorporating the substance into its 'normal' functioning.
2. Online
Online distinctions have been generalized from computing into the field of human interpersonal relationships that disturbs the mind of the person.
The distinction between what is considered online and what is considered offline has become a subject of study in the field of sociology.
The distinction between online is conventionally seen as distinction between computer - meditated communication and face – to – face communication (e.g.’ face time).
3. Creating False Profiles
There are millions of profiles on the Facebook. Naturally a lot of evil characters exist, who create the fake profiles to achieve their goals. Those fake profile holders attack innocent people by use of social tactics. It's no secret cops use social media to monitor the public , but it might surprise you that they create fake Facebook profiles to nab criminals - in direct violation of the website's terms of service . The Justice Department published a social media guide for law enforcement officials this year that explicitly says officers create fake profiles even though Facebook officially bans the practice.
Social-Networks: Some interesting
and real facts about fake profiles - It's increasingly common for people on
facebook to play Zynga games. These games
always push you to invite others to join you
in order to progress in the game. Many
people create fake accounts to play these
games so they won't be spamming their real
friends with game status messages. Thus
creation of fake accounts is becoming
increasingly popular on all of the social
media.
Fake profile and ID! Fake profile is one of the biggest disadvantage of Facebook. Now it is easier to create fake profile with a stolen picture. People often use fake profile to insult or harass someone they don't like. Teen girls are more vulnerable to these activities. There are news found that many girls are mentally depressed or committed suicide after being harassed in Facebook.
There are plenty of groups and Fan pages out there which are being created to abuse or violate other religion , personalities , nation etc. This kind of racist disgusting activities is not acceptable in a global site like Facebook. Facebook administrator should take necessary steps against all of these abusing groups & pages.
Facebook chat doesn't work properly. User often face trouble while chatting in Facebook.
News also found that one mother killed her child because it was crying in hunger while she was browsing Facebook, and a husband killed her wife because she changed her relationship status. These acts are rare but could happen in extreme cases.
Rapist's girlfriend who set up fake Facebook accounts pretending to be his victims and making bogus confessions that they LIED. Ceri Shipman of 25 years wrote false
confessions from the victims to herself. Rape victims were arrested after she handed
her 'evidence' to police. One messages said: 'Maybe I did make up
the rape, but he broke my heart’. Jason Savage of 29 years was jailed for nine
years for three rapes and two counts of causing grievous bodily harm.
Applause in Hull Crown Court as Shipman is jailed for two and a half years.

Two Sisters from India Lure Facebook User To His Death.
Two sisters from Bangalore, India allegedly lured a budding engineer – Tushar Kumar – to his death in a kidnapping and ransom plot gone terribly wrong.
According to a report on DNAindia.com, the perps – sisters Shivaniand Preeti (using fake names Poorvi and Varsha respectively) got the victim's phone number from his Facebook Page and then called him, falsely claiming to have gotten his contact number from the other popular social network in India – Orkut.
One of the sisters then expressed an interest to be "friends" with Tushar and offered to meet him and "chill out". After the unsuspecting victim and his friend arrived.

4. Chances of viruses on your child –
• Social networks spread social diseases, whether of the biological or the computer kind. When your child's computer catches a social disease, like the Koobface virus that was running rampant on Facebook, it's more than embarrassing it's dangerous.
• The social network virus will first try to infect all of your child's network friends. Then it installs a bit of software that can watch what your child searches for on the Internet's search engines and hijacks the child's browser. Now know about Rakshit Tandon.
Rakshit Tandon Conusltant - Internet and Mobile Association of India

Rakshit Tandon
Rakshit Tandon told one very important thing to the world:
VIRTUAL WORLD:IT’S NOT A GAME,IT’S YOUR LIFESTAY SAFE!
Do you remember what Rakshit Tandon told to the World or you want to know again.
Spending your time by social networking behind a keyboard instead of truly socially interacting with people is a huge waste of time. It could also create the environment for some mental disorders down the road. You also deprive yourself the ability to really see the world and people as they are instead of how they wish. Balancing this as with everything in life is the key.Science Daily reported that time spent on the Internet was associated with later declines in within house family communication and a decrease in the number of friends.

Effects of Social Networking on
Education
Knowledge Collaboration Individuals now have the ability to collaborate and
develop without worrying about physical boundaries of time or space.
Sites’ allows individuals to upload self-produced modules of information, and allows the public to access these modules so they never study and just do social networking.
Students may find it a challenge to decipher what
information on social networking sites is legitimate.
Students may believe that because it is on the Internet, it is
valid.
SUBJECTIVE AND FALSE KNOWLEDGE
The article, “Social Networking’s Good and
Bad Impact on Kids” briefly highlights some of
the research about social networking’s effects
on young people both, positive and negative.
It concludes by encouraging parents to
engage with their children in order to shape
how they use social media. The author seems
to say that parents cannot control their child’s
access, so they might as well try to be positive
and pro-active. Let’s take a look ….
BAD Facts Teens who use Facebook more often
show more narcissistic tendencies.
Young adults who have a strong
Facebook presence show more
signs of other psychological
disorders, including antisocial
behaviours, mania and aggressive
tendencies.
One more BAD Fact
Daily overuse of media and
technology has a negative effect on
the health of all children, preteens
and teenagers by making them
more prone to anxiety, depression,
and other psychological disorders.
Another BAD Fact
Facebook can be distracting
and can negatively impact
learning. Studies found that
middle school, high school and
college students who checked
Facebook at least once during
a 15-minute study period
achieved lower grades.
Types of ServicesNetworking

Types of Protection

Prevention from physical or mental
harm.
Privacy

private info.
ON THE BASIS OF THE SURVEY DONE REGARDING SNS IN KHARGHAR, LITTLE WORLD SHOPPING MALL, THE ANALYSIS THAT HAS CAME ABOUT IS
Cons – It should not become an addiction also it can become a
mode of communication for the spread of terrorism, its
waste of time, also there are “n” numbers
of cyber crimes.
AGE GROUP 16-26
Cons – There is no privacy in SNS so most people do
not prefer as it is open to all,
hacking is very common .
AGE GROUP 26-40
Cons – Its of no use as most of them don’t know the use of internet, most of the corporate persons have the fear of getting their confidential issues
regarding their organization to be leaked.
AGE GROUP 40 & Above
Thus we conclude that as everything has its pros and
cons, similarly SNS has its own advantages and disadvantages. But practically thinking, it’s a
necessity for todays fast world. Also for youngsters, it has
become one of the basic necessity like food,
clothing, shelter etc.
