What is POLITICS project?

Politics is a collaborative European project funded by Lifelong Learning Programme that focuses on improving active

participation of citizens to politics in countries across Europe Through the use Web 2.0 technologies

Features of the project

Through the use Web 2.0 technologies, the POLITICS project will enable (Target groups)

school students, VET trainees and adult learners, specially immigrantsTeachers and educators

to develop a better understanding of how modern society functions

to develop skills in problem solving, communication and language learning and writing skills.

POLITICS is a digital storytelling project. The POLITICS project is built around an e-book

“Straight into Politics”. Learners are invited

to form (transnational) teams online to develop a digital and humorous story

based on the scenario of a politically active young person who is convinced he can change the world for the better and organizes an election campaign.


“Straight into Politics”

Different teams work simultaneously and edit or rewrite the same story.

Politics is not just “filling in the blanks” in the story, it is about modifying the story itself, changing examples and illustrations and developing new material.

Participants develop their election platform and discuss how to present their ideas to the electorate

Politics in the University

is the story of a young man who, by becoming an adult, discovers what politics is and what he can do to make a change.

Throughout the eleven chapters the main character together with his university colleagues set up a campaign, design and form their own political party and get involved in the local elections.

The Story of Migrants is about identities

being part of the society or being an outsider.

The first three chapters were written by a trans-national team from Italy, Germany and Finland during the Politics Spring School that took place in April 2011 in Crete, Greece.

Initially, the story focused on situations in which migrants, refugees and expatriates outnumber the “original” population.


The Story of Migrants

The team of writers had three different cases in mind –

the island of Lampedusa in Italy (and the stream of refugees),

the migrant districts in Berlin (where ‘original’ Germans are minority) and

the European metropol Brussels (where the proportion of migrants is expected to be about 70% by 2020).

Each of the chapters represents a visit to one of these

locations and talks about the migrant communities from

either the visitor’s or the migrant’s perspective.

written mostly in English but also in partners’ mother tongue languages
