The International Water Management Institute is one of 15 international research centers supported by the network of 60 governments, private foundations and international and regional organizations collectively known as the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). It is a non-profit organization with a staff of 350 and offices in over 10 countries across Asia and Africa and Headquarters in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The Challenge

Water scarcity This is a critical issue for many countries in the developed and developing world.

World Food Crisis in 2008 Food prices rose by over 40% in less than 12 months.

In Africa and Asia many poor people live on $1 per day or less.

The need for research has never been greater

Strategic Objective 1:Food for People: Create and accelerate sustainable increases in productivity and production of healthy food by and for the poor

Strategic Objective 2:Environment for People: Conserve, enhance and sustainably use natural resources and biodiversity to improve the livelihoods of the poor in response to climate change and other factors

Strategic Objective 3:Policies for People: Promote policy and institutional change that will stimulate agricultural growth and equity to benefit the poor, especially rural women and other disadvantaged groups
