What is RichMedia
Advertisements with which users can interact (as opposed to solely animate) in a web page format.
Which includes:
text, graphical images, moving images, sound and video in a single package to create an effect greater than the sum of the parts.
Why does Rich Media exist?
• Static banners yield a click-through rates of less than 1%.
• The lower the CTR, the lower the revenue the ad brings in.
• Websites are now offering larger, more creative units in hopes of generating more impressions, which would allow them to make a larger profit.
• When compared to the normal standard formats ads RichMedia Formats converts the impressions and clicks to Actions.

Evolution of RichMedia
1996 – Flash was introduced.
2002 - PointRoll developed and launched the first expandable online ad unit.
2006 - Online video is in high demand.
2011 – Expandable Live on iPad Launch Day.

Drawbacks of RichMedia
• Needs more Bandwidth to serve the ads.• Cost is very expensive to build the ads.• Needs Plugins and Silverlight software.
