DESCRIPTION
Over the course of a year and a half, we helped a national non-profit promote and plan their bi-annual No Barriers Summit. We produced a variety of print and online collateral; helped coordinate with the host site, sponsors, vendors, and presenters; and worked onsite during the event to coordinate interviews, video shoots, and anything else that needed doing. After the event, we created a promotional brochure and video, and we helped create a host site RFP.

No Barriers is a powerful community of modern-day pioneers who promote innovation, education, and assistive technologies that create transformative life experiences and inspire people with challenges to live full and active lives.
No Barriers believes in the possible for people like 28-year-old Chanda, a quadriplegic who recently learned to rock-climb thanks to No Barriers. “What I love about No Barriers,” she said, “is that I am allowed and trusted to do this on my own. It is liberating, empowerment, hope.”

Help us empower people to shatter their personal barriers.“No Barriers” is our approach to life. We believe that every person has a spark for adventure that is worth igniting – and one of the powerful ways we do that is through the No Barriers Summit, an international event where cutting-edge technologies and techniques combine with challenging outdoor pursuits to redefine what is possible for people living with disabilities.
Although the average cost per Summit participant is $250, we pass along only $75 in registration fees. No Barriers USA assumes responsibility for the remaining costs and raises the balance through donations and sponsorships. Won’t you help? Together, we can shatter all the barriers.
How will your donation be used?
• $175 covers No Barriers’ cost for one deserving Summit participant.
• $600 helps us to cover expenses for an adventure clinic, such as adaptive mountain biking for wheelchair users.
• $1,300 brings inspirational and powerful people to the Summit, such as Maysam Ghovanloo, Ph.D., inventor of a life-changing Tongue Drive System that enables people with high-level spinal cord injuries to control a wheelchair or a computer with their tongue.
• $2,500 pays all expenses for a child and his family to attend, like 9-year-old triple amputee James (below, on hand cycle), who says, “It doesn’t mean you can’t do that much stuff [having a disability]. You can do anything you set your mind to.”

The Event
NO BARRIERS Summit 2011
Every two years, at a spectacular outdoor venue*, a diverse group gathers. Physically challenged and able-bodied, scientists and artists, adventurers and innovators – they all come together for No Barriers Summit, to celebrate what is possible when the human spirit is ignited by inspiration and innovation.
The summit’s focus is giving people who live with challenges access to cutting-edge assistive technology, hands-on demonstrations, and outdoor activity clinics. The summit’s message is that all people can push through barriers to achieve dreams.
For 2011, No Barriers USA has partnered with host organization National Sports Center for the Disabled for a world-class event featuring ground-breaking technology, vanguard thinking, physical achievement, and inspiring collaboration.
At No Barriers, assumptions about disability and personal
challenges are replaced by a belief in what is possible now
and what can be achieved in the future.
Participants undergo transformational life experiences while enjoying camaraderie, leadership exercises, films, art, and music, and No Barriers’s three signature programs:
Summit Symposium: the latest research and developments in assistive technologies
Innovation Village: hands-on demonstrations and supervised use of adaptive products
Adventure Village: exciting outdoor activity clinics for hiking, cycling, fishing, kayaking, rock climbing, rafting, scuba diving, and more
*Past summit venues include Cortina, Italy; Squaw Valley, California; and Miami, Florida.

Magic happens when you bring technology and adaptive sports together in one place. It’s amazing to see how people learn and how perceptions shift. There are always struggles that come when you are first injured or are trying something new for the first time but with the right tools and attitude, there’s no reason you can’t climb your own El Capitan.
Mark Wellman, co-founder of No Barriers and first paraplegic to ascend the 3,000-foot face
of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park
As always, the technologies were amazing, but I was most struck by the hundreds of people
facing significant challenges, all gathered with the purpose of living more actively, squeezing
more potential from their lives, and taking control of their own destinies.
Erik Weihenmayer, co-founder of No Barriers and first and only blind person to summit Mt. Everest
