The blog was an essential part in
the build up to making the film, as
this was the place where all the
research and planning was
posted. A strength of this was that
you can put up posts and then re-
edit later, also people can
comment on your work and offer
suggestions on how to improve,
however a weakness of this is that
you often have to do work on
PowerPoint and post as a picture
on the blog as it is hard to move
around pictures on the actual
blogger
This was very useful for the
research and planning section as this is where all the information was found. This was especially good as were able to research things such as thriller age ratings and all the conventions of an original thriller, there were no limitations of this
The Macs were a very useful piece of equipment throughout the whole process, but it played a big role in the pre-production phase as we were able to
familiarise ourselves with all the programs that would go on to help us make our movie as good as possible, however a limitation with the Macs is that unlike other computers they uploaded work a lot
slower and hence made the whole process slower.
We used the tripods to great effect
in filming. With the use of this we were able to keep the camera stable enabling us to get those perfectly centrally framed shots and especially that classic last shot with the dejected figure in front of the leaving train, also we were able to pan as well, the only
criticism of the tripod is that perhaps it did not extend long enough
This was the main
equipment used for the
filming , the cameras were
very good as the filming
quality was good and we
were able to get some
great shots, however the
auto focus was a big
problem as the screen was
often blurry and the camera
kept on making unwanted
noises.
During the process of
filming I found out just how
much of an effect
lightning had on a piece.
We used this as the key
light in the three point
lighting method, this was
very good for us as we
were able to get the
desired effect of slowly
revealing our character at
the beginning of the
sequence
This was the main program used for putting our film together. It also helped
us to record audience feedback so we could see people’s reactions whilst watching the film. This program enabled us to edit the film using transitions, adding in music sounds, etc. This was very good as it made us make the movie look professional, by adding
continuity, realism and verisimilitude to the piece, however it took a very long time to upload work onto YouTube so this yet again slowed down the process of making the film.
Garage band was essential for
us in terms of recording our soundtrack for the film. This was very effective as we were able to tone the sound up and down depending on what we wanted, however it was hard to cut out certain bits in the middle of the recording so
some parts were left in the soundtrack that we did not necessarily want.
Although not the most vital piece of equipment, this was very good in being able to get feedback straight away on our piece, however as this was used by a lot of people there were various instances where the
memory was full so we had to delete other people’s work
Although not important in terms of the filming, this was partly important in the pre-production phase as we used this to evaluate man on fire, and this gave us the necessary skills to be able to use the program for later use, however a limitation with this is that it was hard to post the
work onto the blog as it constantly came up with words, but with some help from other peers I was able to transfer it successfully.
This was important for uploading our piece from Imovie to YouTube, this was good as it enabled me to learn how to upload onto YouTube, also people
were able to comment on the video and there were some constructive comments on how to improve which we took aboard, however uploading to YouTube was a very long process and was not ideal especially when you were in a hurry.
Prezi was very good as it was
a different way of interacting creatively and in a way that people would want to look at instead of a boring word document, however I had the same problem with this as I had with slide share in
that I could not transfer it to the blogger but yet again with some help I was able to do it perfectly and even managed to help out someone else.
