What does a production company do?

Our production company is called MediaCFZ. The logo for our company is

Production companies are responsible for tasks such as handling the budget, scheduling and organising the staff. They make sure that the planning is in order and are prepared to start the pre production stage of the film.

Production companies are usually owned or under contract with a media conglomerate, entertainment company, film studio or Motion picture company. For example, Warner Brothers pictures, which is a subsidary company to Time Warner, or paramount pictures.

The idea of a distributor, who that might be and why

Once a film has its final approval and is complete, its production is taken over by the distributors who release the film. They can vary from an individual to a company and are responsible for marketing the film. They decide on the method for the exhibit of the film, or the release date. They are used in order to promote the film further, by offering the public a theatrical viewing if there is a larger budget, or home viewing such as DVD or TV packages, for example, Sky Box Office for tighter budget films.

Where the money might have come from for a film such as yours

For my type of film, it would need only a small budget, and so could be funded by a film festival competition. I would have the option to enter my film at a film festival in London, such as Bloomsbery park film festival, or Woodgreen international film festival. Here my film would compete against other films, and the most voted for would receive a fund to release the film.

If I was aiming for a higher budget, I would attempt to gain shares from Film4 or 2Oth Century Fox bigger companies.

‘Hidden Truth ‘ – This is important as it informs the audience about what they’re watching and establishes the film as it begins.

What your film is similar to institutionally

Some films that would be released similarly to Hidden Truth, are Shutter Island. This film was released by Paramount Pictures and was first released in cinema and later on to DVDs. Another thriller film that would be distributed similarly is Edge of Darkness, released by Warner Bros Pictures. My film would benefit from the release of these big companies because a large sum of the budget can be used to market my film well to my audience.
