FPGAs for Signal Processing andEmbedded Applications

About the Seminar:Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) are findingprominence in many applications such as complex signalprocessing, communication, networking and control systems.FPGAs have surpassed the ASICs by increasing gate counts bymore than three orders of magnitude since their inceptionabout two decades ago. Also, they have added high-speedI/Os,embedded memories, dedicated Phase-Locked Loops (PLLs),and embedded processors. An important aspect of FPGAs is theavailability of pre-designed circuit blocks in the form ofIntellectual Property (IP) that designers can license andintegrate into their system. FPGA based system design isfinding its place in many fields such as medical, automotive, industrial, commercial and military. FPGAs supportreconfigurability of complex digital designs, multicoreprocessors, DSP and communication block sets along withdebugging capabilities. However, many of the current designsget implemented on microcontrollers and ASICs. One of thereasons for this is the lack of awareness and ease of workingwith the FPGA software andhardware tools. In order to exploitthe capabilities of FPGAs and to develop complex applicationswith reduced time, it is required to understand and practice thecorrect methodology and follow the guidelines while workingwith FPGAs. Engineers need to know the shortcuts and industrypractices for successfully designing applications using FPGAs.Also it is required to understand the software solutions andtools available for designing and debugging FPGAs. There is afrequent need to develop customized boards using FPGAs. Thisseminar is one such event which introduces and demonstratesthe best practices of FPGA in industry. In order to bridge theawareness gap this three day seminar on "FPGAs for SignalProcessing and Embedded Applications" would cover thefollowing objectives:

'S.To discuss the challenges and opportunities in FPGA basedsystem design

■Js.To understand the basic/advanced FPGA architecture andFPGA design flow

■Js-To design complex systems using FPGAs without HDLs andImplement the design with area and timing optimization onFPGA

■S-To design, implement and debug signal processing andembedded applications on FPGAs

understand the challenges and solution procedures indeveloping FPGA based High Speed Boards

Who can attend?Experienced Engineers, working professionals, faculties, students (M.Tech./B.E. / Diploma) and fresherPrerequisites:Participants need to have basic understanding of digital circuits,

\HDLs, signal processing and embedded systems
