Corrosion loop(s) are systematized analysis "loops“ used during Risk-based inspection analysis. Both terms “RBICorrosion loops” or “RBI corrosion circuits” are generic terms used to indicate the systematization of piping systemsinto usable and understandable parts associated with corrosion. Systematized piping loops or circuits are systemsused in Risk Based Inspection analysis to assess the likehood and consequence of failure. Other systematization mayalso prove useful, such as, i.e. inspection, consequence, materials of construction and chemistry.

HIGH TEMPERATURE HYDROGEN ATTACK (HTHA)

High temperature hydrogen attack (HTHA) is a phenomenon which occurs within some industrial processes when thepresence of hydrogen, subjected to high temperature and pressure, makes plants and systems prone to damage. Thisreaction can cause an industrial plant to suffer serious failure, which may lead to both expensive repairs and loss ofproduction.

INTERGRANULAR CORROSION (IGC) TESTING

Intergranular corrosion (IGC) is a selective attack in the vicinity of the grain boundaries of a stainless steel. It is as aresult of chromium depletion, mainly due to the precipitation of chromium carbides in the grain boundaries.

Companies have theresponsibility to ensure that the product delivered to the customer meets quality and reliability requirements.

COST ANALYSIS

Privatisation of the power industry has resulted in changes in the ownership and management of power plants.Economic conditions, environmental restrictions, the ensuing competition and demand by shareholders for higherprofits have resulted in an increasing need to supply power on demand.

ENGINEERING RISK ASSESSMENT

Engineering systems are almost always designed, constructed, and operated under unavoidable conditions of risk anduncertainty. Risks are future events with a probability of occurrence and a potential for loss. Caught in time, risks canbe avoided, negated or have their impacts reduced. Risk analysis is a technique applied for identifying, characterizing, quantifying, and evaluating hazards. Risk assessment is performed to estimate the value of a risk.

PLANT RELIABILITY ANALYSIS

Availability, reliability and maintainability are key considerations in most product development. With recognition thatin-service failure cost can far exceed initial purchase cost, companies are required to pay as much attention toreliability as to performance. Performance is optimized by integrating reliability into product development from itsearliest stages and by considering the appropriate trade off.
