Making the Case for IP Camera/NVRWhy are we here?

Can deliver a recorded picture quality that exceeds analog camera and DVR (streaming http protocol sending 1’s and zero’s to NVR)

Greatly enhanced video processing power (VMD) Lower total installation cost - TCO - (PoE, dark

fiber) Wireless Ethernet connectivity Open architecture for enhanced integration

opportunities No finite limit to technology enhancement

(analog finite) IT Managers are embracing new IP technology

(CSO)

Why the Change to IP Video

Users reference for image quality is what they watch at home. Strong trend to HDTV and their expectation is higher.

Picture quality issues with 2:1 interlace cameras being displayed on progressive scan display (LCD).

4 x 3 video format is being phased out in favor of 16 x 9 format.

Advances in imaging technology (MegaPixel), compression (H.264) and availability of low cost bandwidth and storage

Quality awareness & recognition---

Although controlling shutter speed per pixel to get 5 different signals utilizing unique characteristic of the CMOS is interesting from technical point of view, 4 step signals with individual correction curve per pixel in the SUPER DYNAMIC III provides practically smooth and natural gray scale correction.

Because of fundamental weakness of the CMOS characteristic, the sensitivity of the PIXIM camera is approximately 3 times worse than the WV-CP480 based upon our actual measurement of the PIXIM camera. This disadvantage has been known in the market and the PIXIM camera is recognized to be used only for indoor application, not for low light outdoor.

In addition to the pixel based x128 dynamic range, general purpose camera the WV-CP480 can provides;

Auto back focus, 540 line, 0.5 lux sensitivity with adaptive DNR, auto image stabilizer, sabotage protection and BRAND AWARENESS & RECOGNITION

Overall conclusion:

Comparing PIXIM to the SUPER DYNAMIC III camera is not worthwhile from product positioning and commercial point of view.

WJ-ND400 vs. PC Recording Solution- WJ-ND400 has stable embedded OS – with PC

based solution OS is on the HDD- No hacking, virus attack, DoS (no Bill Gates

Rules)- Easy HDD maintenance with pre-tested HDD’s- True pre and post alarm recordings. Some PC

based IP recording solutions have limited pre/post options.

- No camera license needed. Easy installation process

- Some PC based IP recording solutions have stop recording to archive to a NAS.

- Some PC recording solutions re-compress video signal at the server.

- Anti-Virus may dramatically increase CPU usage level that may limit live view refresh rate when recording at high frame rates.

- Enhanced VMD analytics search

Live digital zoom with no pixilation? You can either cover a larger area at VGA quality or a smaller area at Megapixel Quality (See next slide)

Low light and S/N performance issues with Mega Pixel? ** Back-Focus issues with MP?

Wide Dynamic Range issues with Mega Pixel? Full Mega Pixel Resolution over entire scene? High cost and high bandwidth usage for MP? MJPEG vs H264 Not all H264 is created equal

3 Mega > 9 VGA

3 Megapixel camera covers an area more than 9 times as large asa VGA camera. But IMPORTANT in this mode it is VGA Quality video. If full megapixel quality is desired, it must use the same field of view as VGA camera.

Megapixel = Reduce Cameras

Page 46: Why ip060810

メガピクセル訴求

The Quality of the lens is critical. Many Megapixel lenses will not reproduce Megapixel Resolution edge to edgePanasonic lenses are designed with full edge to edge resolution

Page 47: Why ip060810

Some Things to Consider

Is the imager designed for motion video or just standard still picture?

If imager is 1/3” (Most Common Format) and pixel density is increased 4-9 times pixels are smaller and gather less light.

All pixels are not created equal. What is the size and shape? (Panasonic custom designed Octagonal Pixels vs rectangular)

(Enhanced light gathering capability)

Page 48: Why ip060810

Optical Design for 3.0 MEGA pixel (Alignment)

Megapixel cameras require critical alignment of the

imager against the optical axis. If alignment is off, parts of picture will be out of focus.

Manual focus adjustment is very difficult.

It is very difficult to manually get a proper focus position on Megapixel cameras because they have many more pixels and narrower range than VGA cameras.ABF function adjusts a focus position even on Megapixel cameras automatically. Also many Megapixel cameras can not hold focus in true Black and White Mode.

There are several kinds of profiles. They have different features such as quality of picture and latency (processing time) . Four profiles of H.264 are shown below.

H.264 Profile features Comparison

• As design philosophy, the camera’s high profile uses all compression tools to optimize compression. Mega SD camera’s high profile features lower latency than base profile.

• Performance and features are different by encoder chips.

B Frame refers to former and later frames.“I-P-B” frame structure needs less data bit ratethan “I-P” frame.

・ I Frame; intra-frame・ P Frame; inter-frame

block transformation with 4x4 pixel unit, and 8x8 is also processed to improve the compression efficiency.

・ Operate with more detailed information with same data size.
