Is the American Dream truth or fiction? Based on the realities our students face, it is time to have a critical discussion on what the most cutting-edge data shows and the necessary adjustments that must be made to ensure students have the opportunity to be successful on their chosen life paths. Hear from two practitioners who have successfully used data analysis to refine their respective organizations’ interventions (Advancement Via Individual Determination and Dell Scholars) using multiple cohorts of ethnically and socio-economically diverse students.

• Is the American Dream truth or fiction for today’s students? What does the data tell us?
• What are the realities of traditionally underrepresented students in terms of enrollment and persistence in college?
• What lessons have we learned as we follow-forward the college experiences of underrepresented students in terms of persistence, drop-out, and down-transfer?
• Is there evidence that effective college readiness preparation can close the opportunity and persistence gaps? What adjustments must be made?
Why College Ready?
Will every student pursue higher education?
Not necessarily.
Should every student be prepared for and have the option to attend college or pursue higher education?
