Question 3 and 3

Page 2: questions 3 and 4

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

As my genre is quite focused on a particular audience and content, this may cause difficulty appealing to other people. This would limit sales and so I would need a specific media institution to distribute my media product. A good publishing house for my particular genre could be Bauer, which specialise and distribute a similar genre as mine and so they already have an audience set up by the other magazines they have managed.

This would result in a lot more sales as they are a reliable and well-known company, making people and customers trust them to sell good quality magazines. This will make them more lenient when purchasing others, and so will help my magazine sell well.

A popular Bauer product is Kerrang! This is a magazine of which most people have heard of as they sell really well in most stores. If people are fans of Kerrang, then they may spark an interest in mine since we are published by a reliable company. This could increase sales as it already has a big audience

Who would be the audience for your media product?

• The audience of my media product would be my target market. This is primarily young females, but can also appeal to a male audience. The age range is pretty distinctive and will be from pre-teens, to maybe young adults since music Is basically for everyone. The colour scheme links into this by having a suitable contrast which appeals to both sexes.

The gender-neutral colour I have included is purple. I avoided using pinks or blues as these are stereotypical gender suited colours and can give the wrong impression to any buyers. I also included an array of bands which suit both genders, and probably most age ranges. To maintain audience interest in my magazine I will include free gifts, such as posters of a band/artist. I could also include special features, which differ from other magazines and so will make people want to buy mine rather than any others.

An example of a possible feature could be competitions, quizzes, and the chance to win tickets to a concert. Since this is a music-based magazine, this would sell well and spark interest in music fans. In terms of similar magazines, I would say most alike mine would be Q, they feature similar bands and artists to mine since they are of the same genre. This meant that fans of Q would most likely like mine as we offer a mixture of the same stories.

Since my audience is quite a young one, this would mean that money could be an issue. Pricing my magazine too high could limit custom as many of potential buyers can’t afford to buy one every month. To avoid this, I priced my magazine at £2.99 which I believe to be an affordable price for all ages. After researching, the most popular price for a magazine of the same standard is £3.99 to £4.50 so by lowering my own, more customers will be interested and want to buy it monthly.
