Existing Magazines 1Existing Magazines 1Scratch Magazine:I have researched many music magazines and have been able to understand

what they used in their design to attract their audience, by looking at the colour of the designs used. For example I have been looking at www.scratchmagazine.com Scratch magazine is a music magazine predominately based at R&B, and for people who have a passion for R&B music. In this design for one issue of Scratch a large central picture of an R&B artist, Lil Wayne is used as its main photo on the front cover; because of this alone I think the magazine would probably mostly attract boys, and also some very bold dominate text is used all around the photo, making it look very masculine and bold.

The last thing I noticed about this design is the colour scheme used is, yellow, black, blue and white. These colours are very masculine and because of all these aspects that I mentioned above this is how Scratch magazine is able to attract its audience of boys/male teenagers.

Existing Magazines 2Existing Magazines 2Blender magazine:I have also been looking at www.blender.com, Blender magazine, which is

again a music magazine based on R&B music but predominately aimed at girls/female teenagers. I can tell this because an photo of a female artist, Katy Perry has been placed central to the page and on top of the layer of the title, ‘Blender’. You can also tell that this particular issue is aimed at and attracts female teenagers because having an attractive female on the front cover may make other young teenagers/women to aspire to be like them. And also the background to the magazine is plain white which makes the magazine look feminine and soft, compared to the Scratch magazines background which is black making it look strong and bold.

I also think the text has been made to look girly by having some of the text in black so it can easily be seen against the white background, and then having some of the text in pink which is known as a very feminine colour.

My Magazine- Colour SchemeMy Magazine- Colour Scheme

For my design of my front cover of my music magazine I wanted too create a colour scheme to attract people and draw peoples attention to my magazine, I chose the colours white, red, black and orange, I chose this colour scheme because I think the colours look good together, but I didn’t want to use colours like pink and purples because I didn’t want it to look tacky and childish but I think the colours I used look sophisticated and would appeal and attract an older audience of teenagers aged 13-18 rather than children, as if I used colours such as pink and purple I think this would look more immature rather than mature and sophisticated which Is what I was the look I was aiming for and think I achieved.

I also chose to the more sophisticated fonts on Photoshop. I used fonts such as:' Times New Roman’ ‘Aristocrat SF’ and ‘National First Font Dotted’. I also used the font ‘Monterey BT’ i used this font because I thought it looks stylish and sophisticated, which linked it with the colours and whole mise-en-scene of my front cover. I also kept this colour scheme the same on the contents page, by interpreting the reds, oranges, blacks and whites into the boxes around the page numbers and page descriptions, and the colour of the text.

I think this all would attract my audience because the designs and mise-en-scene of my front cover, contents page and double page spread would attract a wide range of people perhaps from the ages of 13-18 year old females.

PhotographsPhotographs

For my photos that I took and used were of my friends Charlotte, I chose to photograph her because she is within the age group of my target audience and she is attractive.

I think the idea of having a large photo of a female on the front cover would attract the audience of teenage girls because they may aspire to be like the artist and may have them as their role models. So I think having this would address more of a female audience quite successfully.

I also used photographs of the same person on both my contents page and double page spread as well as my front cover, theses photos again would appeal to a female audience because people may again aspire to be like and look like the artist.
