How effective is the combination of

your main product and ancillary texts?

Me and my partner used Adobe Premier Pro to create the beginning of our video in black and white and then transition slowly into colour.

The reason we chose to start the video with the black and white effect, is to match our meaning, which is a transition between our models feelings of being sad with her relationship and missing her boyfriend, and then a gradual realisation that she’s happier without him, moving on.

This also matches our Ancillary texts which are in black and white, with our models face doubled up, one looking back and one looking forward.

Our main product is effective with Ancillary task 1 because it is clear we are showing a clear continuity between the black and white theme of the video with our CD Digipack. We have themed our artist’s song titles on the back cover to show a stage of progression through getting over her relationship, for example: Just Before Goodbye- our song in our main task, No Interest- a stage of being angry at her boyfriend, The Hardest Part- her emotionally coping through the break up, The Apple Tree- Wed decided to name this particular track ‘The Apple Tree’ due to the connection to the tree of knowledge in the ‘Garden of Eden’, our artist now has knowledge of her self and relationships in which she can now move forward. We wanted it to show her reflecting on memories from their relationship. The Outcome- her finally realising she’s better without him, and eventually moving on. The decision to choose these names for the album links with the main task, as the video shows a black and white transition to colour, black and white symbolising her reflecting on her relationship in a bad stage of coping, and colour connoting her getting over him, better on her own. We put our artist directly in the centre of the frame for our inside cover, with powerful eye contact, to show her importance, we also decided to use the same image for the CD Disk, to show continuity. We duplicated the AA on the back of the CD as well, to make it an iconic logo.

Audience Feedback- effectiveWe thought our products as a combination were effective but from our Audience Feedback, they also informed us that it was also.

Ancillary Task 1- Feedback

After putting together the sections of our CD Digipack, including the spine, front cover, back cover, inside cover and CD, me and my partner decided to get some final feedback on our product.

The most re-occurring results we received were:

1) All covers link together with the same effects which make it look professional2) The phone bar code on the back cover interacts with audience effectively3) The eye contact from your artist is powerful to communicate with us as the audience because it helps sell your artist.4) I love the white speckled effect across each cover which makes them look unique

5) The copyright statement on the back makes the CD look professional

Our Ancillary Task 2, links with out main task and Ancillary Task 1, as we have again used a black and white theme to show the meaning of our video. We have also used the same main photograph as our front cover on the Digipack and the same fonts and effects as on the Digipack, to show continuity between the products and a clear sign to the audience that our products go together. For example on both products we have included, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook links, to show our audience other media platforms where they can find our artist. However we used the logo’s on the advertisement but written links on the Digipack, because we want them to be instantly recognisable on the advertisement. We decided to use just her full name on the advertisement rather than the ‘AA’ to give our product a surreal feel, and to make our artist recognised by just her name, whereas on the Digipack we wanted it to be more iconic. We also added the names of the guests to give it a personal feel, and it could also allow the audience to keep the advertisement as a memento. We added the mobile barcode on the advertisement as well as the Digipack to reach to a wider, younger audience, as it is instantly recognisable whereas if they buy the Digipack they are more likely to take their time.
