Canadas mining sector hopes it has already hit Rock Bottom and
better times lied ahead. Stock prices had plummeted end demand for
the most minerals died off. This week, the worlds largest mining
conferences on the way in Toronto. The CBC News Tom Herland talked
with many of the delegates. We are optimistics that we have a very
good project. We are hoping that we a find investors Jim Davidson
hopes someone to lend him 2 and a half billion dollars. Davidson is
chief financial officer of Athabasca Potash. He said about boot at

tried to find investors for a new mine in Saskatchewan. Histories
told us every time we have a bad downturn, it does get better. Im
not sure when we get rebound. But I think some point of time will
be rebound the markets. Canadas mining sector helped lead the
economic boom over the last decade, driving the Torontos Stock
exchange to record levels. But the market for most minerals
crumbled last fall. And now the industry is waiting for signs of
recovery. Lisa Waits is Canadas minister of natural resources. Her
father worked for a coal mining Cape Breton. One thing I know about
going up upon the mining industry is that its secretly nature, and
with every downturn comes an equal opportunity for upturn. And what
our responsibility is to downturn the cycle. Its to get ready to
the next upswing. Rat says she knows how mining slumped can
devastate the community. As her case she had to leave her hometown
when she grew up. Its a fatchy hopes other mining communities can
