The History of Music CityFrom the beginning, Nashville grew from a
foundation built on music. Music is what connects the life and soul of the city and its people.
• In the 1700s settlers celebrated by playing fiddle tunes and buck dancing after safely embarking on the shores of the Cumberland River.
• The first “celebrity,” of Nashville was the noted frontiersman and Congressman Davy Crockett.
• In the1800s Nashville grew to become a national center for music publishing.
• Fisk Jubilee Singers from Nashville’s Fisk University become first musical act to tour around the world even the Queen of England stated the group must come from the “Music City.”
