Cloud-‐Integrated  Storage  vs.  Traditional  NAS/SAN:    Three  Year  Total  Cost  of  Ownership  for  50TB

Cloud-‐integrated  storage eliminates:

X  Remote and local storage

X  Purchasing capacity 3-5 years in advance

X  Remote site, power, cooling

X  Remote administration

X  Infrastructure for disaster recovery

~70%  less  than  tradi@onal  op@ons

ì  Plan  your  DR  strategy  now!

Page 36: ICI Lunch and Learn Slides

Case  Study  #1  Company  A  –  Email  Hosting  Company

ì  Scenario:  The  company  needs  to  provide  Exchange  backup  and

archival  services  to  their  customers.  Currently,    they  back  up  to  servers  that  they  manage,  those  servers  contain  both  ac:ve  backups  and  archives.  These  servers  are  housed  in  the  same  coloca:on  as  their  Exchange  servers.  Also,  their  servers  are  in  need  of  a  refresh  in  the  next  year  which  represents  a  substan:al  cost.

ì  Solu@on:  Company  A  decides  to  that  in  the  short  term  they  will  move  their  Exchange  backup  and  archive  files  to  Object  Storage.  They  will  then  move  their  Exchange  servers  to  the  Cloud  and  create  a  DR  site  at  a  separate  DC  to  store  their  backup  images.  In  case  of  a  disaster,  they  will  spin  up  Virtual  Servers  in  the  Public  Cloud.

Page 37: ICI Lunch and Learn Slides

Case  Study  #2  Company  B  –  Digital  Advertising  Company

ì  Scenario:  A  digital  ad  company  needs  to  store  their  growing  video  and  photo  library.  Some  of  these  files  are  accessed  frequently  but  others  need  to  be  archived  for  possible  future  use.  There  is  no  system  in  place  to  auto-‐archive  and  is  a  :me  consuming  manual  process.  The  company  has  over  50  TB  of  data  and  is  growing  at  about  20  TB  per  year.

ì  Solu@on:  By  u:lizing  Twin  Strata’s  Cloud  Array  product  the  customer’s  frequently  used  data  is  kept  on  the  caching  server  giving  them  rapid  access  to  the  needed  files  and  in  the  background  files  are  moved  to  Object  Storage  which  is  located  at  a  separate  DC.  This  provides  both  storage  and  a  basic  DR  solu:on.
