Objectives

1. Appreciate tradition, historical models, popular culture, climate, daylight, environmental issues and building technology to further influence the form and meaning of the Architecture.

2. Demonstrate how off-the-shelf component parts, standard industrial systems, and composite structures can be carefully selected, modified, combined and controlled to meet the particular building and occupant needs.

3. Aim to consolidate urban fabric and form to better utilize the land and muncipal servicing, effective public transportation networks and mixed land-use policies and successes.

4. Aim to develop the site so that it promotes a healthier and better environment for the public than the one previous.

Introduction of Site

We have discussed and agreed to build a 6-storeys car park in Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus. We have chosen 2 separated land which is the Syopz mall and the parking area, Zone J (located nearest to the Syopz).

These 2 lands are linked together so it is convenient to the users which are the students, staffs and also visitors. Our 6-storey car park is multi-functional because we want it to be unique from others.

We have divided the works. So, Tan Ceng Weng is going to be responsible of the parking area. Wong Kim Wan has decided to create a music café along the bridge. And Yap Zhong Lin has chosen to include a landscaped garden at the rooftop and also part of the parking area.

Introduction

For me, I chose a land in Taylors University Lakeside Campus, beside the syopz mall, which is a free car park for the students. The land that I have chosen has the size of 4000m². I intend to build a 6-storey car park on this land for it is originally used as a car park too.

A normal car park size is about 2.5m x 5.2m, so the building could contain about 1400 cars. It is not only a 6-storey car park, but also an electricity supplier. The biggest reason why I want to build a 6-storey car park is because the students are facing a serious problem on car park spaces shortage.

Sometimes students need to wait about 15 to 30 minutes just to find a parking. They have wasted their precious time on this. If this building successfully built, I believe it may solve students’ parking problem. They won’t need to worry about parking problem everyday.

18

Page 19: ICI Proposal

Objective- To provide a solution to the problem faced by every student, stuffs

and lecturers, the shortage on the car park spaces.

- To save land and spaces around the campus.

- The other lands that are used to be car park can be used for other purpose or future development.

- To protect the cars from being expose to the sun and rain.

- Students will not get wet or sweat when they are going to get their car as they are under a roof.

- To make the compound of the school a safer compound to walk, jog and do activities.

- To make this campus looks bigger and even more spectacular.

- To save resources, save environment, and save the bills.

- To make a step closer to self-sustainable energy building.

Purpose= for students to park their cars

Property of = Taylors University Lakeside Campus

Targeted userThe students, staffs and lecturers in Taylor’s University Lakeside

Campus are my targeted users of this proposal. Still, this multi-storey car park that I propose is mainly for the comfort and convenient of the students as they have paid a huge amount of money to this school. Furthermore, the location of the land is located beside the syopz mall, where outsider can come in to park at this car park and to shop in this mall. Student can also relax themselves through shopping after long hours of assignments and classes before they go to get their car and go back home.

Advantages of the space Beautiful highway view.

Huge spaces

Near the gym, near syopz mall near hostel

Near the exit of the campus.

High enough to check out the traffic condition whether to go home at that time or not

Windy

Expose to sunlight all the time. No other building is covering it.

20

Page 21: ICI Proposal

Disadvantages of the space The land is too far away from the classroom blocks.

Very dusty because near the highway.

Very hot.

Overcome the disadvantages of the space The land is too far from the classroom blocks, we can build a bridge

or a pedestrian walkway at the side of the lake.

Cover the side that faces the highway.

Installed Exhaust fan

Duration of projectFor the foundation of the building, it would need about six months to do it. It would be safer if we spend more time to build the foundation, just to make sure the safety. There are a total of ten pillars. Each pillar will be built together at the same time. Next, it will be the six-story floors. Each floor need about one month. So, it will be a total of six months to reach the rooftop. After that, the installation of the fire extinguisher system, CCTV, electrical wire and lift will also need another five month

21

Page 22: ICI Proposal

to complete. At last, we will need to check the safety of the building. This, I think it would need one week to do it. Overall, the construction needs one year five months and a week to complete.

Activities and benefits of car park The students will not need to suffer the hot, like in an oven when

they get into their car.

The multistory car park actually helps the school to save lands.

The multistory car park has a very good security system.

Students can use any level of the car park to organize activities example dance club, but with the conditions it is on Saturday and Sunday and booking is needed.

CCTV is built into every level of the car park.

Convenient to the students as they no need to find empty parking spaces for so long.

The solar panel can produce electricity and supply heat to the shower heaters in the U-residence.

The school can save electricity bills and make this school a cleaner and environmental friendly land.

The building is cleaner and not dusty.

Students can drive smoothly as the floors are covered with cement.

Introduction

29

Page 30: ICI Proposal

Our group had chosen to build a bridge from car park to syopz mall. The bridge can as a corridor. Inside the bridge has a music café. For my proposal, I choose to do this has many useful. First, students who park their car at the car park can use this bridge straight walk to syopz mall. This bridge has air conditioner, so students can walk here to prevent hot. When raining, students can use it so that no need to bring umbrella to class. Although the bridge had connected to syopz mall, not Block E, but this will give convenience to Taylor’s students.

For the music area, I created a café for students who need to relax or do their assignment at here. The café also provided music instruments that give students who want to play it. I also designed a small stage where students can make a performance or small concerts for the public to enjoy it. I also designed an area where student can read or borrow comics. Last, I also designed an area where students can use computer to surf internet to do their assignment.

My intention is that everyone who comes to Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus can enjoy and hang out together with friends.

Proposal 3

Yap Zhong Lin (0310557)

Introduction

As mentioned, I’m going to build a landscape garden at the rooftop of the car park. It is built to be environment friendly; it has a garden like atmosphere. As there’s not much soft landscape found in Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus, I

41

Page 42: ICI Proposal

decided to create a landscaped garden to benefits the students and lecturers.

I named the garden as The Misery. First of all, it’s because of it is only designed for students and lecturers of Taylor’s Lakeside Campus. I preferred not to allow outsiders to enter the garden so that it won’t disturb the students. Besides, I proposed this garden for students to relax their mind as well as relieve stress after a long day class and assignments.

In the garden, students will experience healthier and cleaner air to refresh their minds. They can also enjoy the beautiful view and it’s close to nature. As they can hear birds’ chipping and the waterfall sound.

Objectives

1. To create a green environment in Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus. As students can enjoy and relax after all the heavy assignments and stress.

42

Page 43: ICI Proposal

2. To enhance the building.A beautiful landscape attracts other species like butterflies, birds and other delightful creatures. Users will experience immense joy by seeing them strolling in.

3. Landscape gardens can reduce Taylor’s utility bills and conserve energy. Malaysia is always in a hot season. Thus, the garden’s trees and hedges can absorb heat from the sun to help keep your home cooler.

4. Environmental benefits. Reduces air pollution by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. Having a garden landscaped can also reduce noise pollution by blocking out surrounding noises.

Details of the Landscaped GardenName of the garden: The Misery

Structure: Open-air garden

Area: 15m x 10m = 150m²

Property of: Taylors University Lakeside Campus

43

Page 44: ICI Proposal

Targeted User

My targeted users of this proposal are the students, staffs, lecturers and also visitors in Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus. However, I proposed this landscaped garden so that students and lecturers could relax their minds or thoughts after a long day work. Stress relief is the main idea I proposed this landscape. It can help a person wind down after a very hard day.

Thus, landscaped garden is also a natural attraction. Depending on the design chosen, a garden can attract birds, butterflies and other creatures that can bring major delight. Creating a phase that is close to natural environment. Moreover, this will also increase the students’ quality of life.

However, lecturers are also welcomed to hang out at the garden. Moreover, the garden not only benefits the students but also for the lecturers. Lecturers can conduct a small discussion with students. They can also have some meeting with other lecturers. As lecturers will also have stress after all

44

Page 45: ICI Proposal

day works. Lecturers can release stress in the garden by jogging as walkways are also definitely be provided.

Advantages of Landscaped Garden Beautiful view Open space Windy Healthier and cleaner air Allows students to relieve stress Close to nature Reduce noises Create shades Enhance the building Cooler air Near the Syopz mall No residential area around

Disadvantages of Landscaped Garden Too far away from Block E Hot and sunny

How to Overcome the Disadvantages We might build a bridge connected to Block E in the future.

As students and lecturers doesn’t have to walk a long distance to the garden.

45

Page 46: ICI Proposal

Greeneries are provided to avoid sunlight direct shine to the buildings. Trees can absorb heat from the sun to help keep the area cooler.

Duration of ConstructionAfter the car park is built, I can start my landscaping design

construct. I will to install garden lights.Doing a small paving area, I’ll get all the materials delivered at once. Then hire a machine that can move in the sand and pavers, as well as leveling the soil. This will save you much of the hard preparation work.

All I will be left with is to finish off the job. I’m going to tap into the drinkable water supply; I will have to use a licensed plumber. This will be necessary when I am installing major irrigation works or wish to include an additional water tap in the garden. All of these works might take up to one and a half year.

Activities and Benefits1. Relaxing Environment:

Students can relax their mind after a long day work or heavy assignments.

46

Page 47: ICI Proposal

Beautiful view and clean environment and no noises.

2. Group studies or individual studies: Students can have group discussion in the resting room. Students can also think better surrounding by greeneries. Students’ mind will be enhanced accompany with bird’s

chipping and also waterfall sound.

3. Entertainment – Mini Golf: Exercising, refreshing and release stress. To provide a different exercise facilities. Opened 24-hours. Students can relieve stress from courses

and assignments staying late night at campus.

4. Hang-out Spot: Benches and resting room are provided. Students can relax

their minds at the refreshment area. Healthier and clean air. Students will be fresher at the

garden.

5. Having Parties: Students can organize party or celebration in the garden. And it won’t disturb the neighborhoods as the residential

area is far away from the garden. Students can even have BBQ. It would be more convenience

for “party” people.

47

Page 48: ICI Proposal

6. Make use of free time: Especially for students which are staying in the campus, they

have not much thing to do after class except for assignments.

Students can have some gathering or chi-chatting.

Conclusion Proposal 1 is all about providing the best solution to the major

problem that all students are facing in school every day. I would like to

58

Page 59: ICI Proposal

build a 6-story car park building on the land that is located beside the syopz mall. The reason that I chose that land is basically because it is near to the exit of the campus, so it wouldn’t make the surrounding of the campus traffic jam at that time where all students are going home. Secondly, students wouldn’t need to drive halfway around the campus to find parking spaces. This could reduce the chances of students involve into car accidents and students can feel relief and feel free to cross all the roads in the campus. Well, the land was originally being used as a car park too, but it can only park about 200 cars. This number is too little for the demand of the school. So, with the idea of building a 6-story car park, it could contain about 1400 cars, this is really a cure for the students. The car park building, of course, will have the latest technology, with the installation of the latest fire extinguisher system, CCTV, barrier gate, light bulb, light tube that bring brightness into the building. Besides, exhaust fans are installed into the building to cool the temperature and provide good ventilation to the building. At last, the design of the building is modernize, inspiring, and bringing a whole new step into the eco green material building. It can make the school looks more spectacular and attract more new comers to study in here. I believe my proposal is fulfilling the needs of the students, the school and the society.

Proposal 2 proposed a corridor and a café. Corridor is aimed for all the students who study in Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus. So it will bring convenience for Taylor’s students. For the café area, it content 3 areas that is comic area, computer area and the last one is the music café. Since many students still loving to read comic, so the comic can let them go there to read comic and there is free of charge. Students also can go computer area to use the computer. Beside of

59

Page 60: ICI Proposal

computer there also have printer for students to print out their assignment and project. Last but not least, is the music café. Music café has a stage and music instruments have been provided. So students can use it. Since it is a café, there is also a counter sell beverage and dessert. When students feel hungry or thirsty, they can buy drinks or food from the counter. Well, there also have enough space for students to do their discussion.

Proposal 3 proposed a landscaped garden at the rooftop of the car park. I chose to build a landscaped garden it’s because of soft landscape is not much found in Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus. This proposal benefits the students and lecturers. The landscaped garden includes a resting room, waterfalls, group studies and mini golf area. These facilities allows student to hang-out with their friends, group studies, self-studies BBQ party and playing mini golf. So, students can relax their minds as well as relieving stress. As the garden provided a beautiful view and also healthier and clean air. Thus, students can come out with new ideas surrounded by greeneries and fresh air.
