The course aims to create professionals that are competent in transforming and managing building designs and construction with green considerations. Beside the tremendous quantity of construction materials that have been extracted from earth and transported to building sites, construction concrete dwellings are excessively consuming our limited nonrenewable fossil fuels. The energy required to cool and heat buildings, running appliances and other gadgets is reaching an alarming stage. Meanwhile 40% of global greenhouse gases are released from building construction. Hence, the demand for green building professionals is on the rise.

Graduates will be equipped with professionalism, knowledge and skills to cater for the lucrative market demands from the perspective of architecture and engineering. The course emphasizes on green building delivery and life cycle which includes strategic planning/needs analysis, design review and post-occupancy evaluation. The students are expected to master the fundamental areas of building design which involve ecology, architecture and community, health and building environment and sustainability in building resources and operation.

By completing this course the students will be able to: • Provide technical knowledge and skills in sustainable Building Services • Explain principles of building design, implementation, operation and commissioning • Understand the principles and the use of renewable energy sources • Understand the fundamental concepts of sustainable design and green building practices

Green Technology Management (PA0991)

The course aims to create professionals that are competent in reshaping and managing business models through green considerations. Many international alliances have launched Green adoption in business and industry practices. Meanwhile environmental sustainability in the contemporary business process has become signiicantly important. Proper green technology utilization as simple as using a video conference instead of a physical business trip can reduce energy consumption more than 50% and emails instead of postal mails can reduce greenhouse gases up to 98%. Competency in managing green technologies as business practices is the vital component of business branding that attracts financing and enhances organization competitiveness.

This course introduces the students to the existing approaches of incorporating environmental consideration into business planning, organizing, leading, controlling, strategic management and improvement in organizations with a speciic focus on identifying and managing trade-ofs between environment and business goals. It also explores key scientiic and technical principles underlying environmental technology and contemporary practices. This course will equip students with knowledge about the issues of development and environment. The students will also understand the functions of science and technology as well as the responsibilities of various forces globally.

After completing this course the students will be able to: • Formulate strategic solutions for decision-making in addressing sustainability issues • Understand the importance of management information system in achieving sustainability • Apprehend Information System to environmental and economic problems • Analyze empirical data to understand energy choices made by policy makers • Define management of organizational so that the objectives achieved.

The Hospitality industry incorporates everything from the service industry which includes lodging, restaurants, events planning, theme parks, transportation, tourism industry, restaurants and hotels. The job positions include servers, housekeeper, porters, commis, front office, customer service, bartenders and other related positions such as marketing and human resources.

This course educates students about the principles, social etiquette, concepts, phrases, expressions, sentence structures and the vocabulary needed for Hospitality and Tourism industry. The course also equips aspiring students with knowledge about hotel management, tourism management and hotel administration, marketing, human resource management and public relations.

The course is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed for a successful career in the hospitality operations part of a cruise, as well as providing an essential understanding of elements relating to life and work on a cruise ship. Besides from the Sea-based hospitality knowledge, students are also equip with knowledge on the general hospitality content for the land-based industry as well. Therefore this course will provide the best of both worlds, be it in the sea or on the land.

In addition to being introduced to the wider world of the cruise industry, its history, players, customers, regulations, concerns such as safety, security, professionalism etc., students will be studying specialist operational elements such as front office, customer service, effective communication, essential information technology skills etc.

Students who complete the Certificate course can choose to continue their career pathway via the following options;

This course, is headed by an experienced and accomplished professional in hospitality operations will also include guest lectures by cruise industry professionals, visitations to the land-based hospitality industry (hotels and food and beverage services outlets), guest speakers from the professionals in the Cruise industry in order to ensure an engaging delivery of the latest knowledge and methodology in this exciting industry.

Students after completing their in house studies and in house practical skills, they will be given the opportunity to gain insight and confidence in the hospitality industry by completing a certain period of industry placement at a hotel or western restaurant. This internship placement is an important element of the course and will enable the students to put the correct theoretical knowledge and skills which they have gained during their studies into professional practice. An important part of their placement will be the written portfolio which all students must submit at the end of their industry internship placement.

Band 6: Competent user: has generally effective command of the language despite some inaccuracies, inappropriacies and misunderstandings. Can use and understand fairly complex language, particularly in familiar situations.

Band 5: Modest user: has partial command of the language, coping with overall meaning in most situations, though is likely to make many mistakes. Should be able to handle basic communication in own field.

Band 4: Limited user: basic competence is limited to familiar situations. Has frequent problems in understanding and expression. Is not able to use complex language.

Band 3: Extremely limited user: conveys and understands only general meaning in very familiar situations. Frequent breakdowns in communication occur.

Band 2: Intermittent user: no real communication is possible except for the most basic information using isolated words or short formulae in familiar situations and to meet immediate needs. Has great difficulty understanding spoken and written English.

Band 1: Non-user: essentially has no ability to use the language beyond possibly a few isolated words.

IELTS | Institutions - IELTS band scores

There is no pass or fail in IELTS. Candidates are graded on their performance, using scores from 1 to 9 for each part of the test – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The results from the four parts then produce an Overall Band Score.

This unique 9-band system measures scores in a consistent manner – wherever and whenever the test is taken. It is internationally recognised and understood, giving you a reliable international currency. IELTS scores have a recommended validity period of two years.

Each band corresponds to a level of English competence. All parts of the test and the Overall Band Score can be reported in whole and half bands, eg 6.5, 7.0, 7.5, 8.0.

Band 9: Expert user: has fully operational command of the language: appropriate, accurate and fluent with complete understanding.

Band 8: Very good user: has fully operational command of the language with only occasional unsystematic inaccuracies and inappropriacies. Misunderstandings may occur in unfamiliar situations. Handles complex detailed argumentation well.

Band 7: Good user: has operational command of the language, though with occasional inaccuracies, inappropriacies and misunderstandings in some situations. Generally handles complex language well and understands detailed reasoning.

Therefore, international students are advised to seek for more information and assistance from their local government on this matter. International students have to understand that they must have sufficient funds to study in Malaysia. Some of the cost incurred:

1. Tuition Fees (to be paid yearly) 2. Accommodation fees 3. Living Expenses

It is expected that students will need approximately USD 800 – USD 1000 per month for their living expenses and accommodation expenses.
