Evaluation question 2

HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?

Page 2: Evaluation q 2

SOCIAL GROUPThe typical social group of my magazine would be the young British and American adults which is also representative of my target audience, but also by using a polish model means it may represent the eastern Europeans giving the magazine a larger consumer base. Although the typical hegemonic norms of this genre have male models, I used a female model to handle the imbalance which in turns helps with targetting the females in my target audience. To further handle the male and female imbalance of this magazine, models tended to have a neutral pose and stance so showed less agression, making it more attracting to females.

MISE EN SCENEIt was essential to dress my models appropriately to target my target audience. The front cover features a nodel with relatively simple attire to match the neutrality I was aiming at as if he was wearing gold chains or had gold teeth and following the hegemonic norms then it may put the females off who are in my target audience. Yet the model wears “Versace” which is established and linked with hip hop artists so follows that convention and entices the reader to see what type of magazine it will be. In the double page spread, although a female was used she followed the hegemonic norms by wearing a snapback and big puffer coat to remind the reader that it is still within the hip hop genre. The clothing alone is an indirect mode of address to the reader.

LAYOUTThe layout alone is representative of my target audience through the simplicity and bold writing with bold colours. The design of the text makes it easily readable and gathering information is easy as it is a simple layout. The names of the artists are also current with the top idols of the current time so shows it is up to date and attracts the younger adults. The simplicity and lack of excessive texts separates this magazines from those that have excessive text which are representative of magazines aimed at the older generation

IDEOLOGYReception theory was my main priority as I want the connection between the target audience and the featured artists used in my magazine. A big fan base can be created through the relation between audience and artist. The target audience may aspire to the confident poses of the model which is used as the direct mode of address. The text and content are also comparable to other magazines such as Vibe and XXL so follow a similar ideology which may entice the target audiences of them magazines to try out my magazine.
