Definition

After EffectsI used Adobe After Effects (A computer editing software) to create the Main title and production titles for our opening sequence. I found this software fairly easy to pick up on, and seeing as It was my first time using this software, I think I was very successful in making the titles, with effects that me and my team thought worked well with the sequence. The knowledge I have gained from using after effects is how to make titles that fit to the thriller genre apply effects such as a ‘Glitch effect’ or ‘Dark smoke/water effect’ that look like professional titles you would see in real media products. I think that what I made in after effects we’re original and not only fitted the genre of my video, but also made it look very professional. Other than after effects being temperamental sometimes, e.g. it would take a long time to load, took up memory on my U Drive excessively, I was successful in using the software. If I was to use After Effects again, I wouldn’t rely on too many tutorials to help me, so that I could do it all by my self and create something completely on my own from scratch.

Premiere Pro

Another piece of software that I used for my Portfolio was Premiere Pro. This is an editing software to edit clips to make a film. This is the main software we used to edit all our shots together by cutting the footage, editing the color, adding in soundtrack and audio, adding effects such as fades and dissolves and we also added in extra titles using Premiere Pro. I used this software in GCSE media so I was fairly familiar with how it works. However, then I was only using it for basic editing of shots and nothing to advanced from cutting or adding a few effects. Since using it then, and using it now I have learnt a lot more advanced techniques and tools, such as color grading and color correction, a few audio effects and how to add titles to a moving image. I feel the editing process using this software was successful, as we made a professional looking product in the way that we intended. However, I found that this software can be very unpredictable and I ran into problems frequently. It would often glitch, and things would happen to our product that weren’t meant to and weren’t there before, often the sound would stop working as well as the clip. However, we did over come these problems and one way we were taught was to cache our files to our media folder, this helped most of the time when we ran into problems.

Finally, not only have I learnt while creating my opening sequence, but I have also learnt about new technology while constructing my portfolio blog. I have learnt to use a range of online and new media, my top 3 favorites were Prezi, Extranormal and Slideshare. These 3 websites are 3 different forms of media I have used on my blog to present information that I didn’t know existed/use before I began my media blog. -Prezi is a interactive presentational software with unique transitions. -Extranormal is an animated video of which you can construct yourself by choosing characters and what they say and do.-Slideshare is a way of sharing PowerPoint presentations online.All 3 have helped me present my work in interesting and different ways to make my blog more appealing and interactive. I feel that I used this online software to my advantage and now know how to look for such websites and how to use them effectively. Every website was very simple and easy to use and I feel like I can create each one with confidence. It also meant I was using new media which as a media student allows me to show off my skills.
