In February 2014 BBC panorama highlighted identified sig- nificant failings by ETS one of the approved secure English Language Test (SELT) providers. All UK based TOEIC and TOEFL tests were suspended and have subsequently been removed from the SELT list. ARU took a decision some time ago not to accept TOEIC as evidence of English language proficiency but as a result of this investigation we now no longer accept TOEFL where a student will need a tier 4 visa. We were aware of this change coming in and have been working for several months to improve the quality of guidance provid- ed to student before and after CAS issue in relation to visa application and also changed our pre-CAS checks complet- ed by the admissions team and yourselves as our agents. By making these operational process improvements we are then able to better support to our students (and agents) and re- duce visa refusals which impacts on our conversion rate and importantly our tier 4 licence. We hope this helps put into context the additional work we have asked of you around the CAS issuing process and indeed several other areas of com- pliance. Your time and support has been very much appreci- ated particularly in regard to completing the CAS checklist.”

An update from compliance, in the International Office

An update from ComplianceYou may have read a number of recent news articles in re-lation to International students and UK immigration and we wanted to take a few moments of your time to update you regarding these and what it means for you.In February 2014 BBC panorama highlighted identified sig-nificant failings by ETS one of the approved secure English Language Test (SELT) providers. Changes to entry criteria for International Nursing Studies We’ve made some exciting changes to our MSc International Nursing Studies to make it more accessible for newly qualified international nurses. As a newly qualified nurse, you can now apply once graduat-ed; you just need a degree in Nursing at a 2:1 (or equivalent). Work experience is still valued, but is not a compulsory entry requirement. To enter the MSc International Nursing Studies you now:

• Must have a degree in Nursing, normally a minimum of a 2:1 (or equivalent);

• Must be a registered nurse in your home country;• Must achieve a minimum of 6.5 in the International English

Language Testing System (IELTS) or equivalent.

All applications are assessed and considered on an individual basis, to find out more or to register your interest contact us at [email protected]

PLEASE NOTE: Entry requirements for the Overseas Nursing Pro-gramme (ONP) module are set with the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council and therefore remain unchanged. The changes above are for the MSc International Nursing Studies without ONP only.

Faculty of Health and Social Care

Course title changes for FHSCE We’ve made some recent improvements and changes to our MBA Hospital Management and have made the decision to change the course title to MBA Health Care Management. This reflects the more inclusive nature of health care and healthcare systems.

We’ve also taken this opportunity to review the title of the MA Early Childhood Professional Studies and have decided to change the course title to MA Early Childhood Education. This better reflects the em-phasis on supporting the learning and development of young children within the course. Rest assured this has not altered the course content in terms of what you will study in any way. To find out more information about postgraduate study at Anglia Ruskin University visit our website.

English Language course places still available For students looking to start their studies in September we still have a few places left on our 3 week pre-ses-sional running from 25 August - 12 September 2014.

This intensive programme of 23 study sessions per week prepares you for entry to a degree course in September, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level. They are especially suitable for Tier 4 students.

Our pre-sessional courses provide a combination of English language advancement and academic skills and language. The academic English focus of the courses will include work on how to write and research for an extended essay, presentation skills, listening and note-taking, seminar skills and academic vocabu-lary. The English language focus of the courses will be on grammar and the four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Successful completion of a degree pre-sessional course will mean, for most degree courses, meeting the English language entry requirement for an Anglia Ruskin degree and will not have to retake IELTS or any other English language test to progress. This three-week pre-sessional aims to improve a single element of your IELTS score by 0.5. The minimum entry requirement is IELTS (or equivalent) 6.0 with only one element below 6.0

Lord Ashcroft International Business School

Taking up BSc (Hons) International Business Management in just two years

The Lord Ashcroft International Business School is proud to have added this brand new International Business Management degree into its portfolio. After carrying out a comprehensive review of business programmes and liaising with industry and employers, this new course has its first intake in September 2014.

Building on the success of programmes within the internationally renowned Business School, this degree provides the knowledge and skills to allow stu-dents to successfully operate and compete in global markets. During their studies, students will explore contemporary themes in the area of globali-sation, intercultural awareness, sustainability and ethics, so that they can be effective managers in an ever-changing, international market.

The course is delivered through various options. Students can take the tradi-tional three year programme, or opt for the accelerated option which allows the degree to be completed in just two years, at a lower cost. This version requires an additional intensive study period of six weeks per year, in June/July, but still allows for a break before the start of the new academic year at the end of September. This is a very popular option with many students who value the opportunity of entering the professional world or postgraduate studies at a faster pace. There is a four year option available too, where the extra year is spent on work placement in an international organisation.

Benefits of this course include:

• Take a semester of study at one of our partner universities in Europe, North America or Malaysia (optional)

• Our Intern Programme provides a select group of business students with a business mentor, work experience, exclusive training and development, and a reference from the Dean

• The option to study French or Spanish in year 2 or 3 of the degree

For full details on this programme please click here.

“The friendly environment has allowed me to expand my skill set - with external lecturers and internship opportunities enhancing my work experience on top of my studies, assisting me in gaining the best degree I can. I have met some remarkable people at university, both students and staff and I am excited to continue this networking throughout my third year.”

Gemma Thomas, Business School Student and Intern
