National Physical Literacy Planning Meeting

•  13 National Organizations met Nov. 14th •  Focus was on PL Education & Training •  Alignment around the PL Consensus Statement

•  Outcomes

–  Development of common PL messages - communication –  Streamline each orgs role in PL delivery/promotion – infographic –  Promote and support each others work

National Organizations

Physical & Health Education Canada (PHE Canada) •  Canada’s premier professional organization for

physical and health educators. •  Developed a wide range of PL & FMS

resources & tools including Passport for Life.

High Five •  Canada’s only comprehensive quality assurance

standard for children’s recreation and sport. •  Integrates PL into training modules and tools and

promotes it through their workshops.

National Organizations

Gymnastics Canada •  National Sport Organization for Gymnastics, a

foundational sport for early movement development •  Created Move You Body, a national PL program

in partnership with Swimming & Athletics

60 Minutes Kids Club •  Is a free program that supports students and

elementary schools, Physical Literacy and Health Strategies •  Has a suite that consists of two tools that support delivering and

tracking healthy behaviours, and fundamental movement skills, to students 5-12 years old.

National Organizations

Active for Life •  Helps parents give their children the right

start in life through the development of physical literacy. •  Provides parents and pros with appealing articles, activities, videos

and tools to help children develop the skills they need for lifelong physical activity.

Motivate Canada •  Specializes in improving the lives of young people

by fostering civic engagement, social entrepreneurship, social inclusion and leadership among youth.

•  Has embedded PL into their youth training to support the healthy development of young people across Canada.

National Organizations

Athletics Canada •  National Sport Organization for Athletics, a

foundational sport in early movement development.

•  Have created a National PL program called Run Jump Throw Wheel.

ParticipACTION •  Is a national non-profit organization that helps

Canadians sit less and move more. •  Largely a promoter of PL but also plays a role in strategic

Leadership – PL Concensus & RBC L2P

National Organizations

Canadian Paralympic Committee •  Leads the development of a sustainable Paralympic

sport system to enable athletes to reach the podium at the Paralympic Games.

•  Have PL resources and programs – Changing Minds Changing Lives, FUNdamentals

Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS) •  Dedicated to creating an equitable sport and

physical activity system in which girls and women are actively engaged as participants and leaders.

•  Developed several PL resources targeted at females including one of the only PL resources for older women

National Organizations

Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) •  Unites stakeholders and partners in its

commitment to raising the skills and stature of coaches, and ultimately expanding their reach and influence.

•  FMS Course was one of the first movement modules and is widely used today

Sport Canada •  The lead funding agency for the sport at the National level. •  Supporter of LTAD/LTPD, the S4L framework and Bilaterals in

Canadian Sport System.
