Pastor’s Corner
Since we are doing a walk-through of the new church this weekend, I thought I would bring you up to date with the construction schedule. Before construction started, our projected completion date was March 19. As anyone who has worked on complex building projects these days knows, that date is always tenuous and depends on everything and everyone falling into harmony. We had problems early on with the steel fabrication, especially where it attached to the existing building (as one of the steel subcontractors said, it had been built too well!). We had problems with the delivery date of the new pews (had to be ordered 9-12 months in advance). The pew installation is one of the last things to be done. Once we missed that window, the next available delivery was the end of May. Recently, the Gas Company said our current gas line can’t carry the load for the expansion, and we may have to drill a new gas line into the building. The pews should be installed by June 7, and then the new carpet will be laid. The final stage is the inspection by the city to allow occupancy. So we don’t have a firm date for the dedication of the new church yet. Please plan on the walk-through after all masses this weekend (9th and 10th) and keep your prayers coming!! Thank you Lord!
The Knights of Columbus Assembly 94 will be awarding three $500.00 scholarships to students attending a Catholic school in grades 1-8 during the 2019/20 school year. Applications for this scholarship / essay contest are available at the parish office. Completed applications, essays and supporting documents must be
mailed to the Knights of Columbus Assembly 94 by April 15, 2019. Winners will be announced by the end of May 2019.
Please join us for the 2019 Denver Marian Conference “Behold Your Mother”: Mother’s Day weekend Friday and Saturday, May 10 & 11, Crown Plaza Convention Center, 15500 East 40th Avenue. Lenten Regulations for Observing the Penitential Season
The penitential season of Lent began on Ash Wednes-day (March 6th) and continues until the evening of Holy Thursday (April 18th). Easter is April 21st this year.
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence.
The norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding from age 14 onwards.
If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the "paschal fast" to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily his Resurrection. (USCCB website).
By the threefold discipline of fasting, alms-giving and prayer the Church keeps Lent from Ash Wednesday until the evening of Holy Thursday. All of the faithful and the catechumens should undertake the serious practice of these three traditions. Failure to observe penitential days totally or a substantial number of such days must be considered serious sin.
The U.S. bishops issued a statement on penitential observance: “On Weekdays of Lent, we strongly recommend participation in daily Mass and self-imposed observances of fasting. In light of grave human needs which weigh on the Christian conscience in all seasons, we urge particularly during Lent, generosity to local, national and world programs of sharing of all things needed to translate our duty to practice penance into a means of implementing the right of the poor to their part of our abundance.” (Denver Catholic 2014)

FIRST RECONCILIATION – Congratulations to the 44 children who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time this Saturday. We hope they will continue to receive this Sacrament, and the graces that it brings many, many times in the future.
CONFIRMATION FOR 3RD & 4TH GRADES: Archbishop Aquila has instituted “Restored Order for Sacraments” – that is Confirmation at an earlier age, to complete the Sacraments of Initiation. Our 3rd & 4th graders will now receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this year if they have completed 1 year of Basics RE. Please register your children for RE Classes soon. It is very important for them to begin learning about their faith before their Sacramental year; and to continue their formation well beyond First Eucharist or Confirmation!! Green Registration Forms are available in the Narthex; or you may go to our web-site to register and pay on-line. Please help us by registering early.
STEWARDSHIP: GOD BLESSES YOUR STEWARDSHIP GIFTS! Continued on p. 6.
We have an immediate need for an Aide at the Tuesday 4:30-5:45 pm session for 2nd grade. Please pray and consider how God is calling you to serve Him. Come and be a part of this awesome ministry! You’ll love those 2nd graders, they’re so precious!!
SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS & AIDES – I’m tugging at your heart. Our Substitutes are so IMPORTANT; and always needed for all sessions, sometimes with short notice. Responsible teens may be an Aide as long as you are involved in some sort of Youth Program.
KIDS – We’re missing you – don’t be shy, come and learn about your faith, and make good friends! It’s more than just receiving the sacraments, it’s about meeting Jesus.

Lenten Scripture Study: PSALMS
At the heart of the Bible are the Psalms, prayers from God that help us learn to pray. The Holy Spirit inspired them. Israel sang them. Christ himself prayed them, as did our Blessed Mother. These sacred hymns become our heartfelt response to God’s loving and wondrous deeds for us. Their words captivate the imagination and draw us into a deeply personal encounter with God.
Join Jeff Cavins, Sarah Christmyer, and Dr. Tim Gray as they show you how to establish a deeply personal dialogue with God through the Psalms.
Join us for Psalms: The School of Prayer in progress at St. Francis of Assisi which began Tuesday Mar. 5 at 12 – 1:45 and Thursday Mar. 7 at 6:15-8:00, and continues for 11 sessions.
For more information or to register for the study, fill out a registration form found in the church narthex and drop it in the office mailbox. Cost for materials is $25. It’s not too late to register, you’ve only missed one session. Classes involve watching a DVD, discussion groups, and some homework. Contact [email protected] for more information.
We can’t wait to see you!
7th Grade Pre-HSPT- Saturday, April 13, 2019, 8:00am-11:15am: The Pre-HSPT is given to current 7TH grade students to help familiarize them with the regular High School Place-ment test that is given to all 8th graders interested in attending Holy Family High School. The test will help 7th grade students prepare and strengthen their skills and to identify any gaps. The test is $15.00 and students may register at www.holyfamilyhs.com.
7th Grade Information Night- Tuesday, April 30, 2019, 6:00pm-7:30pm: We would like to invite your family and your 7th grade student to our 7th grade information night to be held on Tuesday, April 30th, from 6:00pm-7:30pm in the school theater. BILL’S ADVENTURES – Bill wasn’t looking to get in trouble; but on his way to school he found a big hairy scary looking spider. He scooped it up and put it in his lunch bag. Hello Everyone! Lent has begun and it is time for us to get closer to God by taking time to pray more and focus on what changes we need to make to accomplish this. We haven't had our Thursday day of Adoration, because of the construction, but we can still take time to spend quiet time with Jesus at church and at home. My favorite time with Jesus and Mary is our time first thing in the morning when we light our prayer candle and pray the rosary together. Let us make our entire day a day of prayer.
