Autumn is definitely here, I plan to find a park and crunch in leaves of

how may of you can have a family trip out and enjoy the colours of

Votes for SchoolsAs a school we have begun using Votes for Schools to promote discussion,
understanding and the children’s opinion about the world in which they are
growing up in. The children will be given lots of information about both
arguments in the topic and will end the week with a class debate and
anonymous voting. We will then receive whole school data and National data to
see if we agree!
It has been very exciting start and the children have loved debating and
thinking of different reasons for and against. The first topic has been “Is gaming
good for you?” There have been many opinions such as: it can be a good
career for you, it means you can play and talk to friends. On the other hand
children think that it can cause bad eye sight, make you unsociable with your
family and can affect your behaviour. Ask your child each week what their new
topic is and please encourage more discussions at home!
Your child may be entitled to Free School Meals if you claim any of
these benefits:• Income support• Income-based jobseeker's allowance• Income-related employment and support allowance• National asylum seeker support• Child tax credit (provided you’re not also entitled to
working tax credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
• The guaranteed element of state pension credit• Working tax credit run-on - paid for four weeks after
you stop qualifying for working tax credit.• Universal credit with annual net earned income of
less than £7,400
In school we would also provide children with 50% of costs of trips along with additional focused work to support them academically. If you think you are entitled to Free School Meals, please come in and talk to use about this and we can provide you with the information to apply.
Friday Flair
Next Friday, we will be re-launching Golden Time as Friday Flair in
KS2 in order to foster and develop the many talents of our children.
Friday Flair will have a different focus each term.
The Autumn term will focus on improving confidence and voice. We
have some wonderful clubs to be part of including: comedy club,
singing club, dance club, poetry club, drama club, debate club,
newsletter club, podcast club and campaign club. These will work
on our speaking and listening skills in a fun and interactive way.
The Spring term will focus on creativity, where children will be able
to design and produce a piece of work over the course of the term.
Teams will include sewing, woodwork, clay pottery and many more!
The Autumn and Spring terms will round off with a ‘Kestrel Mead’s
Got Talent’ session, where the children can celebrate and share
their new skills with other children in the school.
Summer term will be a ‘Get Active’ term, which will include a
variety of sports such as rounders, yoga and football. We will
celebrate the children’s successes with an amazing sports day at
the end of the year.
Mrs Simpson had a very exciting meeting with
Sus-tran this week. We have been selected to be
an intensive support school this year, which we
are delighted about. This will help with our
morning rush and ensure that all children can
come to school safely and in an active way.
There are several exciting projects in the
pipeline. Watch this space to find out more.
