acknowledge and prepare for the challenges

that lie ahead, but also give thanks for our

successes. In this highly competitive environment,

we continue to move from strength to strength,

and have closed the 2014-2015 financial year

on a high note.

On behalf of the senior management team, I thank each and every member of our CB Group family for their dedication and commitment.

I am also extremely proud that as we continue to work hard, and achieve in business, we remain committed as a Group to the communities in which we work, their development and that of Jamaica. In particular, I must note the recent opening of the Fellowship Hall Police Post, made possible by CB Group. As a company that truly believes in sustainable agriculture, it is only fitting that we contribute to the largely agricultural community of Fellowship Hall, St. Catherine, home of our own agro-campus, Imagination Farms.

In March, the CB Group also hosted the second “Give Love, Give Blood” drive – an initiative which is working to tackle the critical blood shortage facing the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS). Those whose circumstances allowed them to participate in this initiative deserve special acknowledgement for their demonstration of a self –sacrificing spirit.

As we go through the Easter Season and the rest of the year, let’s work together to continue in this spirit, dedicating ourselves to our work and our fellow citizen, to build a better company and through it, Jamaica.

Smart Eggs sponsored the American international School of Kingston (AISK)Easter Egg Hunt & Fun Day which was held on Sunday, March 23rd. At 3 o’clock sharp, kids and parents flocked the fun day to take advantage of the various activities that were being offered. The arts & crafts station provided by Smart Eggs allowed the kids to get creative by painting and decorating the eggs.

We also hosted the Easter egg hunt where over 400 candy filled eggs were spread across the lawns of AISK and kids scrambled to scoop up as many as they could find. The Smart Cart was also on hand to make sure everyone was well fed, serving up our popular BELT (bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato) sandwiches.

It was a great day for kids and parents alike!

Deleen and Tina Hamilton, Nutramix Brand Manager discuss her piglets

Deleen Powell is a very busy woman; she works full time in Kingston at the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA), is pursuing her Master’s Degree and

she commutes every week to her pig farm in Brae’s River, St. Elizabeth. Deleen is definitely changing the face of farming.

How does she find the time? As one of our newest contract farmers, you can’t help but notice Deleen’s electric smile. A woman who’s clearly not afraid of a challenge, Deleen is also grateful for the support from the NUTRAMIX team for her farm.

Walking us through her lush green property, Deleen tells us that she purchased 4 impregnated gilts (female pigs) through NUTRAMIX in November 2014, and a few months later had a whopping 43 piglets. Though the farm is small, it is modern: the whole operation is “off the grid”, using solar energy and has a river and spring for water supply.

Farming with Nutramix All of Deleen’s animals are fed NUTRAMIX feeds, which she says has helped yield a high survival rate for her piglets.

She first met our NUTRAMIX sales team at the Denbigh Agricultural show, where she gathered information about getting the animals and feed all in one place.

After 16 years of dedicated service as our as Credit and Collections Manager, the CB Group family wished Verley Foster the very best as he left us to enjoy the fun years in retirement.

Mr Foster’s closest and dearest colleagues came together at the Courtleigh Hotel in Kingston to break bread and wish him bon voyage. He says he is looking forward to spending more time with his beloved wife Viviana, and will be dearly missed by all those he worked with.

Mr Foster who is known to be a kind and wise guiding hand, also remained with us as Ms. Deanne Whitley, our new Credit and Collections Manager became acclimated to her post, ensuring a smooth and seamless transition.

CB Group leads initiative to open Police Post in Fellowship Hall, St. CatherineWe recently led a team of donors to build a new Police Post in Fellowship Hall, St. Catherine.

The Police Post was built on property that is part of our own Imagination Farms agro-campus as a response to growing concerns by residents and farmers about threats to personal safety and continued theft of their livestock.

Officially opened on March 18th by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), the entire project valued is valued at over $10.5 million. The post has all the modern comforts the Police will need and includes security and communication capabilities. CB Group also donated a Ford Ranger Pickup to the Police to help patrol the communities.

Our New Sales Support TeamCB Group is excited to announce a new change to our CB Foods Sales and Marketing Team!

In order to service our customers and consumers better and grow our fresh business, we are restructuring the way the company merchandises our products in the supermarkets and how we manage this function.

The following changes were made in March:

• The Merchandising Team will now be called the “Sales Support Team” (SST) to better describe their complete job function.

• The title of “Merchandiser” has been changed to “Sales Support Specialist”.

• The SST will become part of the Marketing Team, which falls under Chief Operating Officer, Matthew Lyn.

• The SST will be directly supervised by Ryan Silvera, whose title will be changed to “Trade and Events Coordinator” and who will continue to report to Brand Manager – CB Chicken and Bad Dawgs, Alicia Bogues

On Thursday March 5, 2015, we held our second annual blood drive: Give LOVE, Give Blood, at the Girl Guides Association of Jamaica in Kingston. Held in collaboration with the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS), commonly known as the Blood Bank, the drive resulted in 77 people registering to donate, and 66 units of blood were collected.

A huge thank you to all of our CB Group family members that were able to participate. Your donation will go a long way in helping to save lives.

Many first time donors came out because they saw posts on social media and in the newspaper, and simply wanted to give back, including our 2014 CB Pan Chicken Championship Celebrity Chef Miss Jamaica Universe 2014 Kaci Fennell.

We look forward to continuing to educate our staff and the greater public about the importance of voluntary blood donation.

Bad Dawg creates thousands of smiles and full bellies every week. We all know the trademark sizzle of the Bigga, Betta, Badda sausage on

the grill – but there’s a lot of work behind the scenes in getting our carts to their daily locations, office parties, favourite night spots and biggest sessions around the island.

Meet Davia Graham and Jason Tracey – the people who make it happen.

How long have you been working with the CB Group?Davia: 7½ years. I joined CB, Monday, December 17, 2007Jason: I joined CB Group about five years ago. First with Carib Haulage as a Sales Driver and then I came over when Bad Dawg started 3 years ago.

What section of the Group are you in and what is your role?Davia: I’m in the Marketing Department, specifically I am Bad Dawg Sausages Sales (and Events) Coordinator. Jason: I am the Operations Coordinator for Bad Dawg Sausages.

For you, what is the best part about working at CB? Davia: The experience I have gained being in all the departments I have worked in, this includes Customer Service, Purchasing and now Marketing. I feel like I have really seen so many angles of our business.Jason: Day to do operations and the events that we roll out Bad Dawg to. Also, the fact company operates as a family.

Tell us about a typical day at work for you? From start to finish. Davia: Check and respond to my emails – these usually relate to sponsor and event requests, persons inquiring about purchasing Bad Dawgs or becoming a cart operator. I then assist in getting the operators off to their sales locations, get (a lot of) paper work done – daily reports and scheduling the carts, checking off weekly sales, keeping our inventories on track – bread, cheese, condiments etc. A lot goes on behind the scenes.Jason: Basically, I do a check of the planned operations of the day – locations, who is scheduled to work the carts, the quantity of product to be used etc. I then ensure each location is properly set up and has enough product. I make sure each cart operator is safe throughout the day gets home safely and that each location’s account relates to their cash.

What gets you through a hectic work day?Davia: Listening to some music really helps when I’m stressed - maybe some oldies R&B and I’m good to go. Jason: Just remembering what we’re coming from and where we are now – that accomplishment – that keeps me going to accomplish more.

What is your favourite CB product? Davia: Smoked Chicken. It’s already prepared and I love the flavour – just warm and go.

Jason: I love Copperwood Pork – I’m a pork lover overall and of course I have to big up my Brand Bad Dawg

If you could be in another section of the group for a day, where would you go and why?Davia: Shipping and Logistics. I do some logistics now with our cart scheduling – I think my skill set could lend well to it. Jason: Honestly, I would want to work at Imagination Farms – I would love to operate some of the heavy machinery out there. Especially the ‘big green machine’ they use to harvest sorghum.

What has it been like seeing Bad Dawg grow from the beginning? Davia: We started as just one cart – working in purchasing – I was there when we purchased our first big cart, I processed the order that got it branded… I mean to see it grow now and we have so many carts on the road, we’re at all these events and now on the shelves. It’s great. Jason: It’s been good to see the accomplishments of Bad Dawg Sausages from the team of us. It has been a great success and I’m looking forward to seeing it even bigger. I really have to say it’s been a joyful experience.

Name your favourite chicken/ pork dish?Davia: Jerk Chicken from Red Hills Road is my favourite, especially with two fat slices of National Hardough Bread and a whole heap of pepper. Jason: Curry is my thing –so Curry Chicken and I also love Jerk Pork

Chinese Roast CB Chicken

INGREDIENTS – 1 (One) 4lb CB Whole Chicken,

washed with vinegar

– 2 Tablespoons Chinese Five Spice or ¼ cup Five spice Marinade

– 2 ½ Tablespoons Char Sui Sauce

– ¼ Teaspoon Black Pepper

– ¼ Teaspoon Salt

– ¼ Teaspoon Egg Powder (for colour)

DIRECTIONS1. Place CB Chicken in a large bowl

2. Reserve 1 tablespoon Char Sui Sauce to baste CB Chicken later

3. Season chicken thoroughly with each ingredient, using egg powder last. Allow chicken to marinate for 2 to 3 hours

4. Pre-heat oven at 350 degrees for 45 minutes

5. Remove CB Chicken from the oven, and working quickly baste with remaining Char Sui Sauce

6. Return chicken to the oven and allow to bake for an additional 20 to 25 minutes or until desired colour is achieved

7. Remove from oven and plate whole. Carve and Serve

Mussels and Shrimp in Jerk Sausage and White Wine Broth

INGREDIENTS – 1 pack mussels of your choice – 1 bag shrimp, raw, peeled and deveined – 1 pack Copperwood Pork Jerk Sausage

(casing removed and sliced) – 1 cup fish stock or water – 1 cup white wine – 1 large tomato, deseeded and finely diced – 1 medium-size onion, finely diced – 2 cloves garlic, finely diced – 2 tsp fresh fennel fronds (optional) – 2 tsp fresh Dill fronds (optional) – 1 tsp olive oil – Salt, to taste – Red Chili Flakes, to taste – Fresh cracked black pepper, to taste

DIRECTIONS1. Heat a large shallow pan and add 1 tsp

olive oil when hot.

2. When oil starts to slightly smoke, add jerked sausage and let render for three minutes, constantly stirring.

3. When juice from jerked sausage is visible, add tomatoes, onions and garlic.

4. Let cook until onions are translucent. At this point, stir in the shrimp, add white wine and then fish stock.

5. Pour in mussels and stir the mixture.

6. Add all remaining ingredients.

7. Cover and let steam for seven minutes (if using black mussels, when they open up, its ready).

Chef’s tip: Add one pint heavy cream, two tablespoons Parmesan cheese to broth and one pack of your favourite pasta, to make it a full meal.

Easter Lamb PieITALY

No British Easter would be complete without a hot cross bun, a sweet spiced bun marked with a cross that has been eaten for hundreds of years. Hot cross buns, traditionally eaten on Good Friday, are steeped in superstition. Sharing one of these sticky, fruity treats is meant to cement friendships, which is as good an excuse as any to bake a batch.

Capirotada is a kind of spiced Mexican bread pudding filled with raisins, cinnamon, cloves and cheese that is popular during the Easter period. It’s said that each ingredients carries a reminder of the suffering of Christ - the cloves being the nails on the cross, the cinnamon sticks the wooden cross and the bread the Body of Christ himself.

These moist lamb pies are popular in Sicily, Italy during Easter celebrations. Lamb is the most traditional Italian Easter food. This tradition dates back to the Old Testament in which the Jewish population would eat an entire lamb on Easter day. For the Jews, the tradition of eating lamb on Easter symbolizes the sacrifice God made for Israel and its people before they left Egypt.

Every country has that special Easter Time food. In Jamaica, it isn’t Easter without a slice of Easter Bun and Cheese. These are a few Easter specialties from around the world.

Saving for Retirementmore than just a pension plan

Increasingly financial advisors recommend you start saving for retirement the moment you start working. For those of us who

haven’t been that far-sighted, getting started can be overwhelming.

Some CB Group family members are off to the right start with our own CB Group Pension Plan or their own Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA); but for the average person, plans like these won’t be enough to cover their needs after pensionable age.

Here are some simple recommendations to get started on saving for Retirement:

1. Determine how you want to live in your retirement, how you save will determine your lifestyle later on. Setting a target, and working out how much you need to save is critical.

2. Decide when you want to retire. This goal will likely shift, but it still needs to be set now.

3. Plan for health care, and health-related emergencies – rainy days come as a part of life.

4. Save up to 20% of your income. Start with what you can afford and work towards this goal.

5. Consider investing privately outside of your pension or IRA. This can be with private financial institutions, some of which may offer options with tax benefits, or think about investing in real estate or stocks.

6. Think about a second career or ‘post-retirement’ work plan. Many persons are happier keeping busy in retirement, whether part-time, full-time, or even volunteering. Doing paid work in retirement is a great way to boost your savings.

The bottom line is, you are likely going to be around for a good, long time. Do your homework, figure out how much money you will need. Find something you want to do and whether it’s paying job, school, volunteering or a combination of all those things, and give it a test drive before you retire.
