2014 is gone and believe it or not 2015 is here, running along and before you know it will be gone too.

Last year was by all indications a very good year for us and we look forward to greater accomplishments in the current year. As we continue to move forward we need to maintain our focus and positive attitudes to work. As such I’ve put together a few quotes and suggestions that I hope will be a guide to most if not all of us going forward.

1. Always do right -- this will gratify some and astonish the rest.

2. Make yourself aware of management’s goals. A determination to help make them a reality will make you invaluable.

3. Your ability to work productively with those around you is a key measure of your effectiveness.

4. The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary

5. Don’t let the fear of losing be greater than the excitement of winning.

6. Don’t be afraid to give your best to what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones will tend to take care of themselves.

7. The difference between a job and a career is the difference between forty and sixty hours a week.

8. A successful man continues to look for work after he has found a job.

9. “You need to be aware of what others are doing, applaud their efforts, acknowledge their successes, and encourage them in their pursuits. When we all help one another, everybody wins.”

10. “There are two kinds of people, those who do the work and those who take the credit. Try to be in the first group; there is less competition there.”

Many of us are already practicing these in some shape or form, for those who aren’t, it may not be a bad idea to try some of these. Ideas are funny little things though. They don’t work unless you do.

2015 is promising good things and hopefully many more successes, but very little of this will happen without your continued efforts and commitment. I wish you all the very best for the rest of 2015 and beyond as we strive for greater accomplishments for the CB Group.

A Copperwood Love Story: 90 Years of Love and Counting

Valentine’s Day is all about celebrating all that’s good about romance. During February, the month of love, Copperwood Pork joined in the worldwide celebration by pulling out all the stops and treating one very special group who not only love food but genuinely love each other.

We had the honour of sitting with three generations of love; married for a combined 90 years were: Mr. and Mrs. Simpson (56 years of marriage), Mr. and Mrs. Cowan (29

years of marriage) and Mr. and Dr. Cowan-Lyn (5 years of marriage). Chef Christian Sweeney created an exquisite and memorable three course menu which was enjoyed by everyone from start to finish.

The family allowed us and the Gleaner into their home as they discussed love, relationships, family and of course food.

The evening was filled with laughter, and reminiscing about old times

punctuated by course after delicious course. It was the main course that stole the show as Chef Sweeney prepared a Grilled Pork Chop with sweet mango and basil puree. See our recipe section to try at home!

A Special Note. The Cowans are in fact a part of our CB Family and loyal CB Foods customers. We are proud to be conducting business with their company Lillan Limited for over 15 years.

around the brand in 30 days — smart eggs 7

February was Heart Month, and Smart Eggs continued to help Jamaicans ‘Eat Smart, Live Smart’ by shining a light on heart health, and how our Omega 3 enriched eggs can be part of your healthy diet.

You may have seen us in the Jamaica Observer’s Branded feature with Health Coach Krissy Scott. Scott advises that egg yolks being bad for your heart is a myth: “The yolk contains most of nutrients found in the egg. It contains the majority of the copper, nearly all of the calcium, iron, folate, and B6, and 100% of the vitamins A and E. It is good for your bones, eyes, skin and your heart”. And remember, our yolks are where the Omega 3 is stored, so go ahead and enjoy the yolk!

Where else were we?Did you catch us on TVJ’s Smile Jamaica? We demonstrated even more delicious ways to have Smart Eggs and get on the path to a healthier lifestyle, and happy tummy.

Remember our Facebook page always has great recipes like: Frittatas, Eggs in a Nest and Shakshuka, as well as tips for a healthy, active lifestyle.

Home Ownership: The New Mortgage Insurance Act and YouIn December 2014, the Houses of Parliament passed amendments to the Mortgage Insurance Act, aimed at making mortgages more accessible for persons seeking to own a home.

What does this mean?• The Bill increases from 90% to 97%, the portion of the

appraised value of the property on which mortgage indemnity insurance is granted; and to vary the percentage of the appraised value by way of Ministerial Order.

• This means that individuals can expect to need to present smaller sums for deposit to access a mortgage than in previous years

• A prospective purchaser will need find 3% of the price of the house as down payment, plus an estimated 2% closing cost for an overall input of 5% (exclusive of relevant duties).

• This is in comparison to current down payment requirement of 10% to 15% plus closing cost of 2%, which is out of the reach of many Jamaicans.

• Banks will vary in how they apply the new rules, but in general upfront costs of home ownership should go down.
