Coca-Cola HBC Switzerland and SBB Cargo AG have been transport-ing the beverages from Italy by rail since the beginning of 2016. This not only relieves the roads of up to 40 lorry journeys each week, but also reduces CO2 emissions by around 1,200 tonnes each year.

Daniel BürgyMember of the management board, Chief Commercial OfficerSBB Cargo

Coco-Cola is making its logistics less complex by partnering with Camion Transport. This collaboration doesn‘t just offer economic bene-fits – by optimising transport and moving parts of the logistics process from road to rail, it also helps the environment.

Coca-Cola is more than an important customer, employer and tax payer in our community. It is the largest user of Dietlikon water, and has optimised its processes to help preserve the local water supplies. Coca-Cola is also an active member of the community; for example, Coca-Cola is always present at the annual Exercise Week, whether as a sponsor or with hands-on volun-teer efforts.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen

We aspire to grow in a sustainable manner and to create added value for our various stakeholders, and have set ourselves ambitious targets in order to attain these goals. Two key targets are worthy of particular mention: by 2020, we intend to reduce the amounts of water and energy consumed per litre of produced beverage by 21 and 22 percent from 2010 levels. We have made good progress so far, as you will read on pages 14 and 16.

Our new high-speed PET line in Dietlikon will help us achieve this objective in the years to come. Management decided to invest CHF 18 million in this state-of-the-art bottling facility in early 2015, but also decided to shut down the Bolligen bottling plant at the end of the same year. On page 12, we set out how we continued to adhere to our values as a responsible employer in this difficult situation. Other events and accomplishments of the last two years are summarised on the following pages.

The detailed Sustainability Report 2014/15 at coca-colahellenic.ch/sustainability provides more details of our activities and efforts in this area. It is compiled in accordance with the current G4 guidelines from the Global Reporting Initiative, and is reviewed again by an independent body.

Why not come visit! In 2016, we‘ll be celebrating the 80th anniversary of Coca-Cola in Switzerland. We are opening our Visitor Centre in Dietlikon to honour the occasion. This centre is intended to give visitors an insight into our day-to-day operations and our work on sustainability. Read more on visitcoke.ch

Sustainability – a central pillar

Sustainability is an interdisciplinary topic. It pervades our corporate strategy and its four pillars: consumer relevance, customer preference, community trust and cost leadership. It affects all areas of our business. Our work on sustainability is therefore overseen by the CSR Council: the Council meets three times a year, is chaired by our General Manager, and consists of all members of the Leadership Team and selected representatives from the upper levels of management. In these meetings opportunities and risks, targets and courses of action, as well as results and how to (communicate these), are discussed. The Operational Sustainability and Public Affairs & Communications departments are primarily responsible for implementing the measures agreed.

Our Operational Sustainability department is responsi-ble for quality, safety and environmental management throughout the company. Our systems are certified by the following standards:

• ISO 9001 for quality (since 1995) • ISO 14001 for the environment (2001) • OHSAS 18001 for occupational health and safety (2003) • ISO 22000 (2007) and FSSC 22000 for food safety (2011)

These systems are maintained and cultivated nationally and locally by HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) managers and implemented with the aid of the local workforce.

We foster active dialogue between specialists within the Coca-Cola HBC Group and thus make best use of findings and know-how from the other 27 subsidiaries. Every year, we agree on quantitative and qualitative sustainability targets with the Group and our key perfor-mance indicators are compiled in a compact format.

Choice is crucialFor our body, it doesn’t matter whether calories – i.e. energy – are consumed through food or drink, because every calorie counts. To help our consumers keep their weight under control, we offer a wide selection of low-calorie and calorie-free drinks in different packaging sizes. Today, almost six out of every ten drinks sold (58%) are from our water or reduced-calorie ranges. 42% of all drinks sold contain no sugar.

Safety = checks + actionIndependent auditors review our management systems. Anonymous mystery shoppers monitor product quality at the point of sale. And customers/consumers notify us of defects via our Customer Care Centre and Infoline. Each complaint is handled within 72 hours. The number of complaints is at a stable low level: in 2015, we received 0.3 for every million packages sold. Product quality inci-dents are responded to quickly and competently through our incident management and crisis resolution system.

Our newest baby is green2015 welcomed a new addition to the Coca-Cola family: Coca-Cola Life prides itself with the full-bodied Coca-Cola flavour with 36% less sugar, thanks to steviol glycosides from the stevia plant. It is one more option for any consumer looking to cut calories. The market launch of this product was a major event for the company. The last new member of the family, Coca-Cola zero, came along in 2007. So we are especially pleased that Coca-Cola Life has already found a place on our best-seller list – at number eight from February to December 2015.

Our success is dependent on how well and how quickly we respond to consumer needs and to social challenges such as obesity.

8% fewer caloriesThe easily comprehensible nutritional statement and reference quantities on all packaging help consumers independently regulate their calorie intake. We are also reducing the calorie content of our beverages: in 2015, our entire product portfolio – including Valser – had an average calorie content of 85 kJ or 20 kcal per 100 ml, which represents an 8% reduction compared with 2011.

A promise is a promiseThe marketing and sales of our beverages are guided by the “Swiss Pledge“. Since 2010, together with other leading Swiss food and drinks manufacturers, we have voluntar-ily pledged to refrain from advertising aimed at children under 12 years of age and to refrain from product-specific communications aimed at primary schools. The market research company Media Focus annually monitors this industry pledge, examining advertising on TV, in print and on brand websites. In 2014, the industry kept its promise in terms of TV and Print to a 99%/100% level, and to a 90% level on websites.

Class not trash“Grümpelturniers” or “junk tournaments” originated in the traditional Swiss marksmen‘s fairs, where the prizes were all trifling worthless items. For the 100 largest tournaments in Switzerland, we‘re providing the opposite: two attractive partnership packages with drink vouchers, footballs and fan merchandise. Through our partnership with gruempi.ch, we encourage the sporting activities of around 60,000 amateur football players a year. More initiatives to encourage active, healthy lifestyles are featured on www.get-active.ch.

A worthy conclusionBy the end of 2015, we shut down our bottling plant in Bolligen. It was a painful occasion for all those affected, and a situation for which we were responsible as an employer. We worked with affected personnel and the Unia trade union to set out a comprehensive social plan, with early retirements, monetary compensation and professional assistance for those looking for new jobs. We were fortunate to be able to avoid worst case scenarios, partly because we were proactive in cooperating with the local trade union. In addition and in spite of the closure, we achieved all our operational objectives in Bolligen by providing individual performance incentives.

Listening to our employees959 personnel, 959 opinions. More than 95% of these opinions were collected and their voices heard in our annual employee survey in autumn 2015. The MyVoice survey is evaluated via several indices: the Engagement Index quantifies how connected employees feel to the company and how keen they are to commit to the company. This index resulted in an agreeably high 88%. Based on the anonymised results of the survey, we have identified three areas for future improvement. In collaboration with employees, specific courses of action will be derived from these action areas in 2016.

A moment‘s inattention...is all it takes to slip or hit your head: everyday situations that also have to be dealt with at work. 80% of the 24 recorded accidents resulting in an absence in 2015 were due to inattention. Therefore, we are focussing even more intensively on raising employees‘ awareness of such issues, especially in production and sales. The accident record for the large-scale modification work at our bottling plant in Dietlikon shows how well our occupational safety system works: no accidents and a successful safety audit from The Coca-Cola Company. This is even more pleasing regarding the fact that around 60 external employees were working on site over the course of ten months.

In terms of water management, we focus on protection of water sources and efficient usage.

OUR TARGET UNTIL 2020:

21% LESS WATER

USED FOR EACH LITRE OF

BEVERAGE.*

Water is our most important raw material. It is used in our beverages and for cooling and cleaning in our production process. We can only grow sustainably if we to ensure that local water supplies remain plentiful and high in quality.

Water

*compared to 201013

28 % LESS WASTE

WATER THAN

IN 2013.

On track for our 2020 water target In 2015, our bottling plants consumed 584 million litres of drinking water – the equivalent of 234 Olympic-size swimming pools. 344 million litres left our facilities in beverages, and 233 million litres as pH-neutral waste water. For each litre of produced beverage, we need 1.70 litres of drinking water. Compared to 2010, our production is now 13% more efficient. We are on track to achieve our target for 2020 of 1.53 l/lpb (see graph).

Gold medal for our effortsIn 2014, the European Water Stewardship (EWS) awarded us gold certification for our water management. This label confirms that we practise sustainable (mineral) water processing – a novelty in the beverages market in Switzerland. The seal of approval, developed by bodies including the WWF, rewards our painstaking work on how we abstract water, handle chemicals, improve our water efficiency and commu- nicate with stakeholders. We are taking appropriate measures in all of these areas.

Fast, faster, high speed In the fall of 2015, our employees started up the new high-speed PET line in Dietlikon. This modern facility is so productive that it completely replaces the two bottling lines in Bolligen plant. It fills more than 11 bottles per second and about three articulated lorry consignments per hour – the equivalent of 1.3 million litres of beverage per day. This is made possible by a machine block in which bottles are blown, cleaned with ionized air instead of water, labelled, filled and sealed. As the conveyor belts do not need lubrication, enormous amounts of water are saved: 6,000 litres or about 43 bathtubs full – every hour!

We are actively working to reduce the ecological footprint of our production, transportation and cooling equipment.

Our sustainability report contains a comprehensive summary of our direct and indirect CO2 emissions, based on a CO2 database provided by the Coca-Cola HBC Group.

Energy and climate change

15

Page 16: You can download the detailed sustainability report …...As a certified “Gold European Water Steward”, Coca-Cola HBC Switzer-land demonstrates that responsible handling of water

Energy and climate change

On track for our 2020 energy targetIn 2015, our bottling plants consumed a total of 97,277 GJ energy in beverage production. This is the same energy as 965 people living in Switzerland consume in one year. For each litre of produced beverage, we use 0.283 MJ of energy. Compared to 2010 levels, our production is now 15% more efficient. We are on track to attain our target for 2020 of 0.246 MJ/lpb (see graph). This result is partly due to the top 10 energy conservation initiatives set out by Coca-Cola in collaboration with WWF. In 2015, we implemented all the efficiency measures. In 2016, we will also conclude the binding top 18 energy conservation initiatives set out by CCHBC.

CO2 offsetting with social consequencesOur partner in the Czech Republic repairs defective coolers. The CO2 emissions resulting from the transport involved are offset via a project in Brazil, where the Switzerland-based Fair Recycling Foundation recycles old coolers containing CFCs. Recycling a single refrigerator saves one tonne of CO2 equivalents and recovers 50 kg of raw materials. In its first four years of operation, the plant in Cabreúva disposed of more than 375,000 of the country‘s coolers, thus avoiding the emission of 375,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalents and reclaiming 18,750 tonnes of recyclable materials. This project has also resulted in the creation of 150 full-time jobs.

Focus on CO2 emissions from transportationThanks to the efforts of our logistics partners, we are also reducing the CO2 emissions caused indirectly by our business activities. Starting in 2016, SBB Cargo will be transporting more than 1,000 cans and Nestea PET bottles in a 550-metre-long train (comprising up to 31 railway wagons) from northern Italy to our logistics partner in Rümlang every week. This will prevent 40 HGV journeys a week and the resultant 1200 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

OUR TARGET

UNTIL 2020:

22%

Our packaging ensures the safety and consistent high quality of our products. We reduce the various environmental effects of this packaging.

In Switzerland, we fill our beverages into PET and glass bottles or “tanks” for the catering industry. Canned beverages are imported from neighbouring countries. Continuous development of PET and glass packaging focus on reducing weight. In case of PET, we work on the increase of the amount of recycled materials.

17

PET consumption (t)

High quotas without constraintsPET is by far the most popular packaging material in the Swiss beverages market. In 2014, 45,365 tonnes of PET beverage bottles were produced: equivalent to a platoon of 1,620 full 40-tonne HGVs. More than one in four of these bottles are voluntarily recycled, thanks to the efforts of the PET-Recycling Schweiz association (PRS) – and our own activities. We set up PRS with our partners in 1990. In 2014, we passed on 1’219 tonnes of PET bottles to PRS – 3% of the amount recycled in Switzerland. This amount comes partially from our customers, who collect and return the bottles, and partially from our own wastage, e.g. from production trials.

A small reduction for a great effectAfter effectively slimming-down our Valser glass bottles (2012/13), we reduced the weight of our PET bottle cap by 0.2 g in 2014. This may seem insignificant, but it means that we used 39 tonnes less plastic in 2015. This weight reduction had positive effects on our finances and on the CO2 emissions from our transportation. We are also saving on the plastics taken up by the stretch film and shrink-wrap used in transport and sales. Our shrink film requirement has decreased by 35% since 2011.

PlantBottleTM – 30% plant-based materialsIn Switzerland, Valser Silence and Coca-Cola Life are consumed from award-winning PET bottles. In 2011, this innovation from The Coca-Cola Company won the Edison Award in the “sustainable packaging” category. The PlantBottle™ is similar in most ways to a typical PET bottle and is 100% recyclable – with one small, clever difference: the mono-ethylene glycol used in the bottles is derived not from crude oil but from a by-product of the sugar cane industry. In addition to its plant PET content of up to 30%, the PlantBottle™ also contains virgin PET and recycled PET.

We work with our suppliers – usually locally based – and the Coca-Cola HBC Group to decrease the negative impact of the supply chain.

Supplier relations

All suppliers sign our Code of Conduct and commit to comply with stringent standards in the areas of product and occupational safety, human rights and environmental protection. The Coca-Cola Company regularly checks that our key suppliers are indeed complying with these standards.

Coca-Cola is more Swiss than you might think.95% of the ingredients of our beverages originate in Switzerland: the sugar, the carbonic acid and of course the drinking and mineral water. Only our concentrates are sourced from abroad. In the case of sugar, we continue to use the local, high-quality product, even though it would be much cheaper to purchase this raw material from the EU.

As canny as it‘s coolWe believe our company to be a driving force in the push towards better resource efficiency. Therefore we work closely with our refrigerator suppliers, who are constantly striving with us for efficiency improvements on our equipment. As of 2015, our customers can choose among six models within the new iCool generation of coolers.

They are relatively light and manoeuvrable, roomy and well lit, impressively quiet and have a low energy consumption. The iCool 500 with a storage capacity of about 235 0.5-litre PET bottles has a daily energy consumption of 2.85 kWh, enough to operate an 11-watt energy-saving light bulb for 10 days and 16 hours.

The track is coming to the trainIn 2015, with the assistance of our logistic service provider Camion Transport, we laid the foundation for an increased emphasis on rail transport. Camion Transport‘s rail link in nearby Rümlang has enabled us to start delivering to some customers by rail. In many cases, this is also proving the faster method, as night freight is now an option. This link has allowed us to partner with SBB Cargo to import our cans and Nestea PET bottles to Rümlang via Gotthard. In 2016, in collaboration with Coop subsidiary railCare, we will be transporting our two most important Valser products from Ilanz right to Coop distribution centres.

CHF 916 million in added valueFor the second time since 2012, the renowned consultancy Steward Redqueen has calculated the socio-economic consequences of Coca-Cola in Switzerland. The results are impressive: Coca-Cola has been found to contribute CHF 916 million to local value creation and to the safe-guarding of 9,200 jobs. Each Swiss franc directly obtained by Coca-Cola results in around seven more Swiss francs of value creation in Switzerland. The study concludes that each bottle of Coca-Cola imported means a value creation loss of 40%. Each bottle produced in Switzerland generates CHF 0.70 added value, and each bottle imported only CHF 0.50.

Three partners, three key issuesTogether with the Swiss Red Cross, we have supported disadvantaged people since 2010: as well as our traditional “2x Christmas” campaign, we, Coop and our consumers collected donations for poor families in Switzerland in 2015. The Swiss Foundation for Practical Environmental Protection (PUSCH) and our joint exhibition on water are raising consumer‘s awareness on responsi-ble water usage. The exhibition has been hosted by four shopping centres run by Migros-Genossenschaft Ost-schweiz. In partnership with the IGSU, the Interest Group for a Clean Environment, we are implementing clean-up campaigns and awareness-raising actions against littering. Our employees regularly dedicate their free time as volunteers in all three of these campaigns.

As a certified “Gold European Water Steward”, Coca-Cola HBC Switzer-land demonstrates that responsible handling of water resources is crucial. It not only endeavours to manage the quantity and quality of water used, but also works towards transparent water management and environmental protection.

Sustainability – a central pillar

CONTENTS

Soft drinks have been criticised as the sole reason for people be-coming overweight and obese. I am of an entirely different opinion. The key to a healthy lifestyle is a balanced diet and enough exercise. Coca-Cola contributes actively to this by offering a broad range of beverages, calorie-free and low- calorie innovations, transparent information on nutrition and ingredients, and active lifestyle initiatives.

Lorenz HessPresident of SDIG and national council CDPSoft drinks information group

Switzerland has strict food safety and quality requirements, and Coca-Cola has been certified in accordance with the latest stand-ards. Their partnership with the Cantonal Laboratory in Zurich is results-driven and professional – including when it comes to han-dling incidents related to product quality.

When a plant closes, it is a sad, difficult time for all the employees. And it‘s at just such a time that a company shows its true colours. Coca-Cola has proven itself to be a proactive and responsible partner in this regard. We have worked together to prevent hardship and negotiate socially responsible solutions.

What they say about usThe progress we have made was not achieved by us alone. We’re travelling the route to sustainability hand in hand with a variety of stakeholders, as illustrated by a selection of statements from some of our business and project partners.

Canned soft drinks are a current trend – including here at Coca-Cola. Aluminium beverage cans are more eco-friendly than their reputation would have us believe: their packaging is light, recycling rates are around 90%, and as much as 95% of the energy and CO2 used in making aluminium for the first time can be saved through recycling.
