YEAR 8 STENCILS

This term in Visual Arts, Year 8 were introduced to the Street Art unit of work. Year 8 have been

learning about different street Artists such as Banksy and have been experimenting with street art

techniques. As part of their practical assessment year 8 had to design a stencil that represented

themselves. Once carefully cut, students had to print their stencils first with paint to master the

technique then with spray paint to create unique prints. Year 8 have worked really hard this term

and have created some truly amazing artworks. Miss Tayla Thompson CAPA

Touch Football referees

On Wednesday 7th June, a group of Delroy Students went to Riverbank Oval Dubbo to referee a primary Touch Football

Gala Day. All students were very professional and got fantastic feedback from the organiser and primary school teachers.

As well as refereeing, the students had to coach the primary students while playing, as it was many primary students’ first

attempt at playing touch football. When the Delroy students were not refereeing, they also ran the canteen. All students are

to be commended on their behaviour, attitude and helpfulness throughout the whole day.

YEAR 9 CHILD STUDIES Year 9 Child Studies students are currently learning about new born babies in the classroom. Students have learnt about the

development of the baby in the womb and birthing so are now moving on with how to look after a baby. Feeding,

wrapping, sleeping, nappy changing and how to hold a baby are some of the areas being covered. This links directly with

their Term 2 assessment task of taking home the 'Real Care baby' for a minimum of 1 night and looking after all the baby’s

needs.

This term has been a very busy one for the Strive class, with

students completing this semester’s final assessment tasks just

last week. As part of their Cross-Curriculum Integrated Unit of

Work: My Story, Your Story assessment task, students had to

tell the story of an inspirational Australian. Students chose a

variety of individuals including sports-people such as Matt

Mitcham, Cathy Freeman and Tim Cahill, to people who have

made a difference in the medical field such as Fiona Wood, as

well as some local inspirations including a couple of members

who work at the school! Students were also required to reflect

on the place of storytelling as a way of understanding

Australian traditions, culture and history.

Students received their results in their Maths and Science

exams, with some very pleasing progress made by many of the

students in the class. Almost half of the class demonstrated

growth in their Maths results between the Term 1 exam to the

Term 2 Half Yearly exam. Of particular mention and

congratulations is the score of 93% achieved by Theodore

Scholz. An amazing result and one which reflects Theo’s extra

efforts revising his work at home. This is the true meaning of

success - a lot of hard work, determination and effort.

In our Career Management lessons, students have explored the

impact that stereotyping can have on an individual, and how it

can affect our ability to form respectful and meaningful

relationships. A recent activity involved students ‘bursting

stereotypes’ which can be seen in the attached photos.

Students also engaged in a team-challenge in their Initiative

Games lesson which required them to use their problem-

solving and communication skills to build two equal parts of

the same bridge. As can be seen, the challenge came about as

students were not allowed to see what the other group was

making and could only speak their instructions to one another

through the open door.

Students continue to look forward to their Class Project

lessons which saw them recently making chicken and

vegetable sausage rolls, and bubbly rocky road slice for the

Homework Centre afternoon tea. This has been made possible

through the ongoing support and generosity of Woolworths

Delroy Park.
