NEW ARRIVALS

SANCO officially

launches in Hlomendlini

By Xpress Reporter

he South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) had its official Tlaunch at the Newark Primary School on

Sunday evening.Members of the Hlomendlini community within

Ward 4 in the Mandeni Municipality showed up in numbers to be a part of the process that would see the spirit of civic passion and pride manifest in an historic election.

According to their website, SANCO, works as co information centre as well as making sure that people get services promised by the Government. “SANCO mobilises People in defence of People Centered and People Driven Development.”

It looks beyond formal political constrains presented by the democracy. SANCO acts as advocates of the communities in communication with government and other service providers. It represents a vibrant grassroots democracy.

The SANCO Chairperson of the Greater KwaDukuza Region, Skhumbuzo Dlamini, is mandated to set up SANCO organisations within each ward of the ANC governed municipalities within his jurisdiction.

He said that Hlomendlini (Ward 4) in the Mandeni Municipality was just the start with more SANCO set ups to take place.

In his address he mentioned galvanizing the Hlomendlini community in educating them on how to run their own businesses and making sure “councillors do what they promise to do.”

“We are here today because there are many issues facing your community like corruption, lack of facilities and incomplete buildings,” he said.

Dlamini was referring to the community hall that lay incomplete now for close to five years and the lack of a school playground for Newark Primary School to name a few.

Tugela's popular civic minded stalwart, Mr M Moosa, took the Xpress Times on an exploration of the community and people of Hlomendlini and other nearby areas.

Moosa who was instrumental years ago with the Concerned Citizen's Group (CCG) in addressing municipal irregularities within a broader and more

In lieu of the three minute gang and their modus operandi when leaving people shattered after brazen robbery, this past week another three citizens were violated.

The latest incident took place on Monday at the Post office opposite Laurie C Smith when a 33-year-old Indian woman was held at gunpoint as she was collecting her letters at 4:15pm

“One black male approached me from my right side and stuck a gun to my hip while another approached me on my left side,” she said.

She added that they stole her wedding ring and bangles and then pushed her to the floor. The men were allegedly well dressed and the value of the items stolen amounted to approximately R98 000.

A King Shaka Road home was raided on Friday at 12:15pm and in that case the robbers made off with jewellery, money, appliances, Flat Screen TV. It is alleged by residents in the area that the men were “Nigerians dressed in religious attire”

A businessman / musician from the Manor area was a repeat victim and claimed that robbers stole valuable items and trashed his property on Thursday.

S e n i o r S o c i a l W o r k Manager, Miss Penny Dhaver was the first speaker and highlighted the legacy of CWSA: KwaDukuza in terms of landmark projects achieved and sustained.

She revealed the ethos and the way the Society evolved by saying: “We have adapted to meet the demands of social services in KwaDukuza.”

She added that Child Welfare in terms of service

“KwaDukuza Municipality wants to partner with CWSA: KwaDukuza and have an arrangement over a three year

term with ourselves where they will make a financial contribution because they recognise the work we do as an organisation is something they ought to be doing,” he said.

LEAKS AND MORE LEAKS: The Xpress Times received calls about the Short Street area near Sunny Park springing leaks for the umpteenth time. This area has been covered extensively over two years by this newspaper and despite fixing, water leakage in this drought stage is painful. One resident who has kept an eye on this situation and who claims to have arranged meetings with the ward councillor and spoke to Ilembe is fed up. “Once again workmanship is poor and millions of litres of water are wasted and when are they going to stop blaming the old municipality”

BLINKING RED: The traffic lights at the intersection of King Shaka and Albert Luthuli Streets as well as the Cato and King Shaka Street intersection have been malfunctioning for just over a

month, with only the red light blinking profusely

Brave or cowardly?A relative of a man attacked by

four youths in her home has distanced herself from playing any role in the incident. Sibonelo Giya alleges that he and his wife visited Zandile Gumede at her house at about 11pm. The four youths came to the house and allegedly attacked him with a bottle and a hammer as well as having kicked and punched him. When the wife called Zandile she saw Giya on the ground and fled to her sister's house claiming she did not want to be involved. Giya was taken to hospital where he was treated and discharged the following day. One culprit was arrested. However, because the police failed to bring him before court within 48 hours, the matter was not placed on the court roll.

recently have been warned The boss is back. After a period of absence from the local court, straight talking, no nonsense Shoba Maharaj is back with a vengeance. She has shown her strong hand in giving the so-called “petty” offenders plenty of food for thought. Sandile Gumede (32) of Groutville pleaded guilty to stealing 9 packs of Halls valued at R112.25 from Boxers. He was sentenced to a fine of R500 or 50 days imprisonment. Sikhumbuzo Thusi (28) of Lot 16 pleaded guilty to theft of Brut from U-

Save valued at R20.99. He too was given the same sentence.

The price of freedomEverything has a price tag. So it

would seem to Siphiwe Masinga (33) of Happy Valley. Police attended an accident scene in Gizenga Street. It is alleged that the driver of an Isuzu bakkie collided into a VW Golf. On spotting the driver of the bakkie, police placed him under arrest and transported him to the District Surgeon to extract blood as he was visibly under the influence of alcohol. On the way to conduct the test he offered police a bribe to release him. Police called his bluff and received R170 cash as a form of bribery to release him. Masinga now faces a charge of Drunken Driving and Bribery. He is due back at court on 19 December.

Dolly Govender makes our dayI would like to thank the KwaDukuza Deputy Mayor, Dolly

Govender. Dolly Govender assisted the residents of the Nyathikazi area in Ward 3. The Nyathikazi area did not have water for 11 days, and thanks to Dolly for assisting the residents to restore the water. Many of our residents used water from the river for bathing and washing our clothes. Residents were helped by relatives in Darnall for drinking water. I must give appraisal to Dolly Govender in working so hard and also stayed in constant contact with the residents regarding the water problem. I wonder what her telephone bill was for the day and half the night. I have noticed the interaction between Dolly Govender and the residents of the Ilembe region is of very high standards. I am also very proud that her cellphone doesn't go on voicemail and if it does for source reason, she returns the call. I just wonder if the other councillors also do that. I truly believe all councillors can learn from our Deputy Mayor Dolly Govender with how to interact and give service delivery to the people of KwaDukuza. The last we see councillors helping us is on election campaigns but Dolly Govender fulfills the legacy of our Nelson Mandela. Service delivery must be done every day. Well done. Keep up your good work every day.

The iLembe Chess Association has been recently formed for the benefit of children in the iLembe Region, and although still in their infancy, they have already successfully hosted district chess trials. At these trials 40 children were chosen to represent KwaZulu Natal, to take part in the Sou th Af r i can Jun io r Chess Championship in Kimberly from 3 to 8 January 2015.

Unfortunately this sport, although supported and encouraged by our President Mr Zuma, receives no funding f rom any sphere of Government; National, Provincial or Local.

It is left to the parents and the Association to raise funds to send our children to this National Tournament as each child has to pay their own way. Our children hail from the entire iLembe District and it is so sad that some who gained selection on merit have had to withdraw due to the lack of funding, this is extremely sad.

The iLembe Region has already produced SA Chess players, some of whom have recently represented the country in the World Championships.

Therefore, due to the lack of funds there is a possibility that this team will not be able to go through to the Nationals. iLembe Chess are now desperate and any amount will be appreciated. They have deadlines to p a y t o w a r d s t h e t r a v e l , accommodation and arrange for players' kits and without the funds, this is not possible. iLembe Chess are now appealing to the public and businesses, to please assist these kids. It is a lifetime opportunity, an honour to

their province and to their country. This is also a wonderful business

opportunity for all iLembe businesses to market their brand and to help support the children of iLembe. Besides the opportunity to play chess against other provincial teams, the children will be gaining so many life skills by being given the opportunity to go to Nationals. iLembe Chess have managers and coaches accompanying the team, but really need financial support. There will be about 2200 players from all over South Africa, 400 officials and about 1600 s u p p o r t e r s a t t h i s N a t i o n a l tournament.

Any amount will help us to get these kids to participate in the South African Junior Chess Championship next year.

MESSAGE TO MATRICULANTS“YOUR ATTITUDE DETERMINES YOUR ALTITUDE”All praise is due to GOD ALMIGHTY who has blessed man with the infinite capacity to learn and may His choicest salutation continue to descend upon our Master who's live personified true commitment and dedication. We are fast approaching the days where our matric learners sit for their final examinations. Matric is undoubtedly an important milestone which serves as the harbinger of all their future educational pursuits. The days leading up to the exams are often fraught with extreme levels of stress and anxiety. Matric exams are probably the most crucial and vital examinations that you will ever write since they eventually determine your lifelong career options. It is therefore vital to manage this stress by turning to GOD ALMIGHTY and begging for His mercy and guidance.Remember: “Desire is the key to motivation, but it's determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal - a commitment to excellence - that will enable you to attain the success you seek.” Therefore regard the coming examinations as an opportunity to test your commitment and drive. “An ounce of performance is worth pounds of promises.” It is now time for action, determination and execution. No problem in life can withstand the assault of continued learning and sustained prayer.Parents and siblings also need to play their role by ensuring that the home environment is conducive to study. The success of your examinations is dependent on effective time management, smart studying techniques, a balanced diet and regular exercise. As you approach the examination phase, it is worth reflecting on the nature of life itself. Life is but a voyage of tests and tribulations which we need to face with courage and determination. We are continually faced with making tough decisions and choices. It is not difficult to make the right choice if you know what your values are! Stay committed to your values but remain flexible in your approach. “There is no end to education. It is not that you read a book, pass an examination, and finish with examination. The whole of life, from the moment you are born to the moment you die is a process of learning. “The team at Xpress times, together with the community of KwaDukuza, wish all matriculants every success in the exams as well as in the near future.

Hi. My name is Veeara Pillay. I am eleven years old and in grade 5. I really enjoy reading the XPRESS Times, but there is nothing that suits my interests. It would be great if you could add a children's section to your paper. Maybe something to encourage reading? Wouldn't it be great if teachers use your newspaper during lessons. Maybe some activities for children perhaps? I would greatly appreciate it if you would consider my suggestion.

Yours faithfullyVeeara Pillay

All Around the Kitchen Tableby Erin Liles

Kara loved her kitchen table. It sat in the middle of her kitchen, big and brown and strong.

She loved it even though it had scratches in it from her brother's fork and marker stains from the pictures she drew. It even had big chunks chewed out of one of the legs when her dog thought it was a chew toy.

In the cool bright mornings, she sat in her own chair, waking up with juice and oatmeal. In the sunny afternoons, when school was over and the day was hers, she ate cookies and drank milk at the kitchen table. She painted, played games, and finished her homework.

In the dusky evenings she sat at the table, the smells of d inner enc i rc l ing he r l ike a warm b lanke t . At the kitchen table, she saw her brother's rosy cheeks. She

saw her parent's smiling faces and she felt warm and safe and happy.

But Kara didn't care what it looked like. When her mom complained about how bad the table looked, Kara would say "It's not worn out mom. It's just worn in." Kara loved it.

Until the afternoon when a terrible thing happened. She came home from school one day and in the place

where her beloved kitchen table usually stood, was something awful. It was made of glass and metal. It did

not look strong. It did not look sturdy. It looked like it might fall over in the slightest wind. It looked like it would fall apart as soon as she sat down.

"Mom! Mom!" Kara cried. "Our table is gone and there is something strange in its place!”

"Yes honey, we got a new table." Her mother said, "Isn't it beautiful"

"They're taking the old one away in that truck outside." Kara cried, "But I don't like this new table! "Try." Said her mom. Kara sat down. The table had no scratches from her

brother's fork. There were no marker stains from the pictures she drew. And her dog only sniffed at its legs.

She had never eaten oatmeal, or cookies, or dinner at it. Never painted, finished homework, or played games. Never saw the faces of her family sitting around her. She had never done anything at this table. Tears filled her eyes.

"Hmmm." Said mom. "Maybe there's a way we can keep both tables. Let's go talk to the delivery men and see if they can bring the old one back in.”

But when Kara and her mom went outside to get the table back, the delivery truck was driving away.

Kara began to cry. Dad said, "Let's go get that table!”Kara and her parents jumped into his truck and set off down

the road in search of the vanished delivery truck. They turned corners, drove down big roads and little roads.

They passed shops and schools. Lamp posts and people and cars whizzed by as they sped along.

At last they spotted the truck parked at the furniture shop on 5th street.

Kara's dad jumped out and caught the men just as they were going inside the store. Kara could see him talking to the delivery men and then she saw them shrug their shoulders, open the doors, take out the old table and load it into her dad's

truck. At home, the family decided to put the old table in the

living room. Everyday Kara sat at it, refusing to sit at the new one. She watched as her family ate and talked and did work.

Although she could see everyone, it somehow wasn't the same from where she sat and Kara felt lonely. She looked down at the old table and saw its scratches and stains.

Without her family around, the table didn't look worn in anymore, it just looked worn out.

"Maybe the new table isn't so bad," she thought. Finally, Kara could stand it no longer and decided to join

her family at the new table. She looked around at her parents smiling faces. She saw her brother's rosy cheeks. She smelled the warm scent of dinner.

Now the glass looked shiny and the metal felt cool and strong when she touched it.

“You know mom," she said as she sat down, "you're right, this table is beautiful!"

Dear leads I had seen several testimonies of so many families testifying about the amazing work of Mama Rahma, it’s true seeing is believing for years my husband had totally abandoned me together

with the kids we could fight on a daily basis, peace at home was no more and it had become my responsibilty to put food on the table as he could not care anymore. Life was hell for me those days,

we lived in tears and fear. Divorcing me was soon to happen as it was on his mouth all the time.Surprisingly I had the number of one family which had testified about his work recently and they had overcome what I was going through and they had similar problems I called them first and they told

me the amazing work of Mama Rahma. I really had no faith in healers as I thought they all were fake as their so many people talk of them of how fake they are and they are after peoples money. The family

did me a favour they called Mama Rahma on my behalf and she made arrangement to see me the following day by his home. She touched me forehead and we had a moment of silence, she then

revealed that my husband was involved in a relationship with another woman, she had put a spell on him, never to trn back to his family and the children to be turned in to noses misery. Mama Rahma

commanded using spiritual language and we had noise of things crying saying let us go please don’t destroy us!!!

Thanks God it was during day and in full lights by her house she questioned them and they said the Name of the person who had sent them she was the manager by my husbands work place and I knew her. Mama Rahma prayed for a moment and she said you don’t belong to this family, she then asked

whether she should destroy them or send them back I chose to destroy as I only wanted my husband not to fight or revenge and what i had seen was enough for me! Eventually after the strong prayer she

said go in peace and joy and harmony will always be with upon your family your husband will be home the next day. I indeed it happened I am more in love with my husband and he is taking good care of his family now. Thanks Mama Rahma and to the family of B.Sharam which reffered me to

Mama Rahma. Dear leaders seeing is believeing amazing work of Mama Rahma

BAFANA Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain and goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa was shot dead late Sunday near Johannesburg with club officials describing his slaying as a "loss to the nation".

Lieutenant-General Solomon Makgale said Meyiwa, 27, was gunned down at a house in Vosloorus and declared dead on admission to hospital.

"We can confirm that Bucs (Pirates) goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa has been shot and sadly declared dead on arrival at hospital," the South African Police Service (SAPS) said on its Twitter feed. Police later said there were seven people inside the house, including Meyiwa, when two suspects entered and another remained outside.

Lt-Gen Makgale said that the motive behind the attack remained unclear The incident happened at about 10pm in Vosloorus, added police who did not comment on some media reports that the shooting was sparked by a row over a mobile phone.

"There was an altercation and Senzo Meyiwa was shot. The three suspects fled on foot after the shooting.

"We can assure South Africans that we will do all we can to bring Meyiwa's killers to book.

"A reward of up to R250 000 is being offered for any information that can lead to arrests."

Pirates also confirmed that the player had been killed.

"Orlando_Pirates family has learned with sadness of the untimely death of our number 1 keeper & captain Senzo Meyiwa," the club tweeted.

Irvin Khoza, the club chairman, added: "This is a sad loss to Senzo's family especially his children, to Orlando Pirates & the nation."

Meyiwa played for his club in Soweto on Saturday and has been in outstanding form for the national team during recent 2015 Africa Cup qualifiers.

The death of the national football team captain is the second tragedy to hit South African sport within three days after former world 8 0 0 - m e t r e a t h l e t i c s c h a m p i o n M b u l a e n i Mulaudzi died Friday in a car crash.

Celebrities and sporting stars across expressed shock on Twitter as they woke up to the news of Meyiwa's death.

South Africa team-mates Dean Furman and Andile Jali were among the first to react to the Meyiwa tragedy on the social media site.

"Beyond devastated at the loss of our captain and friend Senzo Meyiwa. Thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this terrible time," tweeted England-based Furman, who plays for Doncaster Rovers in the

“We continue to play exemplary roles in dealing with social decays through the successful implementation of Operation Sukuma Sakhe. The fruits of working in harmony with various stakeholders are starting to shower light to our people and our association is resulting to positive spin-offs,” said Ward 25 Councillor, Sanele Mfeka who spoke during the OSS Sports programme in Sakhuxolo, Doringkop on Saturday, 25 October 2014.

“The success of this event is a clear indication that a lot can be achieved if we work in unity. We offer our heartfelt appreciation to the provincial government for ensuring that t h e r a d i c a l s o c i a l transformation in our area happens with speed, working together with our local municipality that continues to lead the implementation of the Operation Sukuma Sakhe,” said Mfeka.

Former Orlando Pirates coach Augusto Palacios tweeted: “What a tragic loss @SenzoMey1 was an unbel ievably honourable human, friend & sportsman. The C o u n t r y i s m o u r n i n g y o u r l o s s #RIPSenzoMeyiwa”.

Proteas cricketer Wayne Parnell said: “Saddened to wake up here in New Zealand and hear such horrific news about the passing of Senzo Meyiwa”.

Mamelodi Sundowns player Teko Modise tweeted: “Beyond devastated at the loss of our captain & friend Senzo Meyiwa. thoughts & prayers are with his family & friends at this terrible time”.

Meanwhile, South African journalist Ranjeni Munusamy said: “So it wasn't just a nightmare then? #SenzoMeyiwa”.

National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega would address the media about the investigations into Meyiwa's shooting later on Monday.

And a recent injury to South Africa captain and goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune gave Meyiwa a chance in the national team, popularly known as Bafana Bafana (The Boys).

New national coach Ephraim 'Shakes' Mashaba not only promoted Durban-born Meyiwa to replace Khune but also made him captain of a team that has been in the doldrums for some years.

Meyiwa responded to his promotion by leading the team to victories over Sudan and Congo Brazzaville and draws with Congo and Nigeria, a country South Africa traditionally struggle against.

He did not concede a goal in the four matches and if South Africa defeat Sudan in eastern city Nelspruit on October 15 they will qualify the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations tournament. He was also made captain of Pirates and helped the club defeat Ajax Cape Town 4-1 Saturday in a South African League Cup quarter-final.

Meyiwa gave a flawless performance and the only Ajax attempt that beat Meyiwa came from a penalty kick.
