On November 18, the
students in the high
school participated in a
retreat that was coordi-
nated by Mrs. Breiden-
stein and a group of
students from St. Isa-
dore’s in Manhattan.
After a normal Friday
mass, all 49 high
schoolers walked over
to the Knights of Co-
lumbus, where they
spent the remainder of
the school day. The
theme of the retreat
was “Walk by Faith”.
Each student received
a sheet of paper with a
shoe that they were to
color/customize to rep-
resent themselves. Eve-
ryone then spelled out
FAITH with the shoes.
Each of the KSU stu-
dents that attended
gave a speech on the
different aspects of
walking by faith. After
each speech, different
activities took place, to
include building the
tallest newspaper
tower, playing
“conference”, tele-
phone, coming up with
prayers to write on
multi-colored feet, and
journaling. A band
from St. Isadore’s came
and played 6 Christian
songs. Before the end
of the day, a Thanksgiv-
ing lunch was served,
that had all the works:
turkey, stuffing,
mashed potatoes,
gravy, cranberries, and,
of course, pie. Overall,
the retreat was a fun
experience and hope-
fully it can be contin-
ued for years to come.

Every year pre-school through
5th grade classes dress up in
their Halloween costumes and
parade through the hallways
of Saint Xavier and over to Mil-
lennium Bank, where, as a
group, they trick-or-treat and
receive candy from the bank
staff.

Saint Xavier’s fall dance On Friday, November 4th, Student Council sponsored St. Xavier’s Fall
Dance. The dance, consisting of a game area, the dance floor, and the
snack bar, was a great hit! We would like to personally thank the Student
Council and their sponsor, Mrs. Breidenstein, for giving us an outrageous
dance!

St. Xavier Catholic School Honors Veterans
St. Xavier Catholic School celebrated Veteran’s Day by inviting veterans to join them for Mass. Af-
ter Mass, veterans were treated to a coffee/muffin breakfast in the school library. Later that after-
noon, a ceremony was held in the school gym where Major Ken Hanlen spoke to the students.
The entire assembly recited the Pledge of Allegiance and sang several patriotic songs. The cere-
mony concluded with the playing of Taps by music/band direc- tor, Stuart
Workman and John Weber.

VolleyBall Sub-state
For St. Xavier’s high school volleyball girls, this year has
been a step up from the last. This year, sub-state took place
on October 22nd, in Frankfort, Kansas. The team played exceptionally well
for having to adjust with many injured players, who were not able to play.
After playing Frankfort’s team, the girls came home. The coach, Allison
Coy, was proud of the girls’ improvements as a team. They hope to have
a better season next year and say goodbye to their three parting Seniors:
Lené Keating, Keonya Jackson, and Kellie Powers.

This year the Yearbook Staff is going to continue the mystery
person mini game. Like last year, it’s a game that anyone can
play as long as you are a student of St. Xavier School.
In this game, anyone has an opportunity to “Guess Who’’
the mystery person is. In addition, if anyone can guess the right
answer, he/she will be able to claim a prize. For more informa-
tion just ask Mrs. Fowler.
Place your guesses in the box that is located in the computer
lab. One winner will be selected at the end of every month.
This person likes the color of
Purple, is 5’ 8” tall, likes to
work outside and pizza is
their favorite food.

In our first pep rally of the year, we had many fantastic things hap-
pen. We had the always exciting student faculty volleyball game,
recognition of this year’s junior high and high school volleyball
players, always adorable preschoolers cheering, and the trash bag
three-legged race! The students won in the student-faculty volley-
ball game by a significant number of points, but the teachers did a
great job keeping up. The players in the volleyball game are listed
on the left side of this page. The participants in the trash bag three-
legged race were the top sellers in each class for trash bag sales.
They had an awesome time racing each other. The preschoolers
were super cute and definitely pumped up the crowd. The first pep
rally of the year had some fun memories and the next one will be
held during basket ball season.

Like every other year, we here at Saint Xavier school have had red rib-
bon week. But unlike last year we had a Junction City police officer
come and talk to the middle and high school. Officer Paqutte came and
talked about some of Junction City’s laws and what it would cost it you
broke that law. We also had Mrs. Nicole Sizemore came to read a story
about red ribbon week. The students wore there jeans and a red on
Wednesday October 26th. They where also able to wear they ribbon
that was pasted out all week.
