The ancient art of Egyptian tentmaking comes alive at the sec-ond largest quilt show in the United States. Similar to hand appli-que sewing, examples of this craft have been found buried in the great tombs of Egypt and is considered today a dying art form. The show will kick off at the Road to Califor-nia Quilter’s Confer-ence and Showcase at the Ontario Con-vention Center in On-tario. Show Hours are Thursday – Saturday, 9:00AM-6:00PM and on Sunday, 10:00 AM-3:30 PM. Tarek Abdel-hay and Hosam Hanafy are coming from Egypt to demonstrate and dis-play their ancient craft. Hosam is a tentmaker through and through while Tarek, an attor-ney by profession, is not practicing currently so that he can focus en-tirely on his tentmaker work. pending inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump, which had the focus of some officials’ attention on how they would push back against the new administration’s policies and decisions. Others referenced the parade’s theme: “Now more than ever, we all must work together.” “We are confronting a dichotomy of democra-cy — something that is unique in our history,” state Senate leader Kev-in de León (D-Los An-geles) said at a break-fast before the parade. “More than ever, Cal-ifornia must remain a beacon of hope and op-portunity in an uncertain

world.” He continued, “Califor-nia will never appease anyone who seeks to un-dermine our econom-ic prosperity and funda-mental human rights.” Los Angeles County health workers, includ-ing nurses and techni-cians, marched in pro-test of a possible repeal of the Affordable Care Act, President Obama’s landmark healthcare leg-islation. And L.A. Coun-ty Supervisor Mark Rid-ley-Thomas marched with them, holding a sign that read, “Obam-acare Works.” Other groups celebrat-ing at the parade Mon-day included represen-

tatives from local labor unions and law enforce-ment agencies, as well as high school marching bands and the Omega Psi Phi fraternity — the first predominately black fra-ternity to be founded at a historically black uni-versity. Another float, sponsored by Denny’s and adorned in gold and green tinsel, displayed a large photo of the slain civil rights leader. “We stand with him, and with the community, in trying to support all the things that he stood for,” Ronald Smothers, who owns a Denny’s restaurant on Crenshaw Boulevard, said in an in-terview with ABC 7.

Representative Norma J. Torres Makes Decision to Attend Trump Inauguration ONTARIO, CA – Earli-er this week, Rep. Nor-ma J. Torres (D-CA) released the follow-ing statement announc-ing that she plans to at-tend the 58th Inaugural

Ceremony for Donald J. Trump. “After serious consid-eration, I have decided to attend the inaugura-tion of Donald Trump. As an immigrant and a woman who represents a largely Mexican-Amer-ican constituency, I am the embodiment of ev-erything Trump has de-monized and demeaned. And on January 20th, I will stand over his shoul-

der, just as I will during the next four years, to remind him that I and people like me deserve a seat at the table, and we will watch his every move. We will hold him accountable. We will not silently step aside and be ignored. We will show up, and we will make our voices heard. (To continue reading, please visit www.wss-news.com.)Representative
