Wow, this term has really flown by! 1/2CW has been very busy and have worked extremely hard. Mrs Collins and Mrs Walsh are both very pleased with the students’
progress as all children have shown some remarkable increases in their learning. We welcome two new families to our class and we also welcome Mrs Collins back from
her lovely, relaxing holiday.
English This term the students in 1/2CW have been learning how to
write information reports. We have been very excited to learn
about many different types of animals. We have been reading
lots of big books in class and our favourite book was
“Fossils.” Within our writing, we have been focusing on
the use of punctuation, including the use of capital
letters and full stops. All members of the class have
presented interesting news items on given topics
and students also worked hard to prepare and
deliver a short speech. It has been one of the
highlights of our term to watch the students
grow in their public speaking ability and we were
privileged to listen to some excellent speeches.
Maths Students have been working extremely
hard in mathematics. They all enjoy the
Count Me in Too activities on Monday
mornings and the hands on activities within regular class
lessons. Students
have further
consolidated their
skills in counting,
addition and
subtraction, and
multiplication and
division. Students
have learnt about
measuring area and
volume, as well as
how to construct
and interpret column graphs. Students particularly
enjoyed building models of the school and writing
directions, telling how to get from one landmark to
another.
Working hard together!
The green dinosaur is on top of the
middle room and to the right of the
blue dinosaur!
We need more blocks
Mrs Walsh!
The Need for Shelter This term as part of students’ learning in Human Society and Its Environment, 1/2CW has been learning about shelter and about how building some shelters can affect
our environment. Ask us about the different types of shelters that plants and animals use or create.
What’s Alive! Every Friday we visit Mrs Shaw’s room and we have been leaning about living things. We have learnt what makes something a living thing and also
about how we can group living things into different categories.
1/2CW was very excited to learn more about reptiles at the
Crocstars visiting reptile show. We got to touch a diamond
python, blue tongue lizard, and Eastern longneck turtle and shingle
back lizard. Even Mrs Walsh was brave enough to touch the saltwater and freshwater
crocodiles.
Creative ART 1/2CW’s room is looking fantastic with
all our artwork hanging on the walls.
This term we have been using different
paint techniques and an assortment of
materials to create artworks which support our learning
of living things and shelter.
The students did a spectacular job of running the
assembly this term. The class looked gorgeous in their
possum hats and they were very excited to perform
their assembly item called “There’s a Possum in My
Roof.”
A Note from Mrs Walsh As you are aware, as of next term I will be teaching
Year 4. I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching the beautiful 1/2 CW. Thank you to the families of 1/2CW for your support. It has been a pleasure working with you and
your children.
Next term, Mrs Collins will be working Monday to Thursday and Mrs Snell will replace Mrs Walsh on
Friday. Mrs Snell is well known to the children as she provides numeracy support Monday to Wednesday within
the class.
We wish you all a safe and relaxing holiday!
