Thrive LDN

3

In July 2017, the Mayor of London, alongside health and care partners, launched Thrive LDN with the

aim of creating the collective action needed across London, for everyone to speak openly about mental

health and have an equal opportunity to thrive.

At its core, Thrive LDN is a participation-driven partnership that engages with and responds to the

needs and insights of Londoners.

By working in partnership across London we are better able to achieve our shared goal for all

Londoners to have an equal chance to a healthy, happy and fulfilling life.

Thrive LDN has seen rapid growth since our public launch in 2017, becoming a complex collection of

partnerships, projects and activities. Many have come about due to our open approach to participation

and partnerships.

Find out more about Thrive LDN and all our activities via our recently published interim Insights Report.

Immersive storytelling with Ruby’s Worry

4

To encourage early conversations about mental health and to build resilience from a young age, Thrive

LDN has an established partnership with Discover Children’s Story Centre and Bloomsbury Publishing

to deliver immersive storytelling sessions for young children aged 4-7 year olds and their

parents/carers. Recent immersive storytelling sessions have revolved around the picture book Ruby’s

Worry by Tom Percival.

• Ruby’s Worry features on the Reading Agency’s reading well booklist

for children to support children's mental health and wellbeing.

The Discover Storytelling session gives parents and education staff the

opportunity to talk about mental health and individuality to children from

an early age. Positive parenting is a strong protective factor for mental

health in childhood and later life.

The event involves an immersive performance of Ruby’s Worry for 20

minutes followed by an arts and craft session for children to complete

with teachers, parents or carers.

Live streamed performance of Ruby’s Worry

5

To celebrate World Book Day on Thursday, 5 March 2020, Thrive LDN will be live streaming an

immersive storytelling performance of Ruby’s Worry to all primary schools in London.

The live performance will be broadcast from the Tramshed Theatre to schools across London. This will

help allow as many schools as possible the opportunity to explore early conversations about mental

health and identity with young children.

The live performance will available to watch at 2pm on Thursday, 5 March via the

Thrive LDN website: www.thriveldn.co.uk/livestorytelling/

Ruby’s Worry – the story

Ruby loves being Ruby. Until, one day, she finds a worry. At first

it's not such a big worry, and that's all right, but then it starts to

grow. It gets bigger and bigger every day and it makes Ruby sad.

How can Ruby get rid of it and feel like herself again?

Live performance of Ruby’s Worry live-streamed to all London primary schools on World Book Day

To celebrate World Book Day on Thursday, 5 March 2020, Thrive LDN - the citywide movement to improve mental health - will be

live streaming an immersive storytelling performance of the children’s book Ruby’s Worry to all primary schools in London.

Ruby’s Worry, a picture book written by Tom Percival, features on the Reading Agency’s reading well booklist for children to

support children's mental health and wellbeing. The performance is produced by Discover Children’s Story Centre and is designed

to help parents, carers and education staff have early conversations about mental health and identity with children from a young

age.

The live performance of Ruby’s Worry will be broadcast from the Tramshed Theatre, Greenwich, at 2pm on Thursday, 5 March

via the Thrive LDN website: www.thriveldn.co.uk/livestorytelling.

Schools are being asked to get children aged between 4-7-year olds involved in the interactive session, alongside parents and

carers, by playing the live broadcast in assembly halls or classrooms. The session will mix a live performance of the book with craft

work. Previous participants, including parents and teachers, have said they found the sessions extremely helpful and enlightening.

If this sounds like something you would like you school or children to take part in, then register your interest via the Thrive LDN

website and receive further information about the Discover Storytelling event: www.thriveldn.co.uk/livestorytelling.
