These notes have certainly filled my bucket and they also made me reflect on some of the things that I am grateful for. So, if you’re stuck on gift ideas, especially those tricky Grandparents, maybe create a Thank-you Jar for them. I’d like to introduce Chelsea. She is currently in year 4 and is an avid supporter of The Royal Children’s Hospitals, Good Friday Appeal. Chelsea approached me sometime ago and asked if she could hold a public fundraising event at school. To my complete surprise she wanted to shave her head! After meeting with Chelsea’s mum, we have agreed to hold a special student gathering on Monday 17th December where the clippers will come out. There will be more details and information on how you can donate to Chelsea’s fundraising efforts and ways that students can support Chelsea (who is much braver than me). Friday the 7th of December:

BBQ starts from 4:30pm onwards

Concert starts 6:00pm promptly BYO seats and picnic blankets.

We are very excited to announce that our Artist for this weeks Artist in Residence celebrations is Ruth McKittrick

Chambers. She is a well known and much loved local teacher and musician. She has taught two generations of

primary school students in the Bass Coast area, led local singing groups and been an active community advocate for

making learning accessible for people of all ages. Since taking leave from her Music and Oral Literacy teaching job

here at WPS, Ruth has travelled the Northern Hemisphere working and learning about world's best practice in

education, particularly for reluctant learners. With her late husband Pete, she also returned to West Arnhem Land (NT)

and engaged remote Indigenous students in Music Programs to engage and enhance Literacy learning.

This week Ruth has been working with our students in a music/dance program acknowledging identity and a sense of

place. Students have been learning songs which celebrate Wonthaggi; local places, local relics and local languages

(Boon Wurrung, Italian and English). Students will also learn a number of bush dances that families will be invited to

participate with on Friday night when Ruth will be joined by members of her extended family, staff and students to

provide a big, live band! This will support our students as they showcase their learning. See Pirili Chapman or Marc Ibrahim for further details.

$N %&ORT Wonthaggi Primary School Grade 4, 5 and 6 boys are the 2018 Primary

Boys Softball State Champions after an outstanding performance in

Melbourne recently.

Led by captain Jarvis H. who plays Baseball in Melbourne on the

weekends, 10 boys qualified for the state finals after being named South

Coast District and Gippsland Regional winners, with over 500 schools

starting out in the competition, and many teams fielding regular softball

players.

The boys displayed tremendous skill under pressure, a fierce competitive

streak and above all, a supportive and inclusive team culture that delivered many forms of success.

To win the competition, the team had to play against Sorrento Primary School, Templestowe Valley Primary

School and The Lakes Primary School in a round robin format at Jells Park in Glen Waverley on November the

28th.

Throughout the day the boys were continuously commended by umpires, spectators, organisers, coaches

and fellow competitors on their skills, but mostly their behaviour and attitude that they consistently displayed

throughout the day.

$N ART We've been really busy making the extra costumes in Art this week and we have discussed the clothes they

could wear with the costumes. I have stressed to students that it is not a concert where we are asking them

to buy anything that they don't already have, close enough is fine. If they have a piece of clothing with a

logo on it but it is otherwise the right colour then just turn it inside out for the night.

Prep A (Whales)- have made whale water spouts in Art which will need to be put on just before they sit

down prior to the concert starting. If they could wear grey or blue clothes (or white or black), that would be

great.

Prep B (Koalas) -have made Koala ears and gumleaf twigs which will have to be put on just before they sit

down prior to the concert starting. If they could wear grey or white or brown, that would be great.

Prep C and 1/2E (Birds) -have made bird hats and beaks. Any clothing is fine. Costume will have to be put

on before the concert starts.

1/2A and B - if they could wear what they want, but could they please bring a towel to wrap around them-

selves (bath). I have purchased about 40 shower caps if students want to wear these.

1/2C and D - if they could wear PJs (bed)

3/4s (Chooks)- have made a chicken head-dress and a beak. Clothes could be brown or white or grey for

the chicken (or green and yellow like the chicken in the song). Clothes could also be red, green and/or

white to represent the Italian flag.

5/6s - can come as any historical figure relevant to Wonthaggi (olden day clothes, dull miners clothes,

cardboard pickaxe, Wonthaggi sports teams clothing, whatever).

Thankyou and just let myself, Ruth or Marc know if you have any questions
