From the Commander’s Desk . . . WVA 48 Sisters, June 6, 2018 was a special day: the first anniversary of Women Veterans of America, Chapter 48. Early on, our Chapter set some lofty goals and thanks to our hard work and community leadership we were able to accomplish each goal with great success. It is amazing to think how far we have come in this inaugural year, and we can all stand proud for the roles we played. Today though, I am thinking much more about the future. I believe the need for women veterans to be connected and in service to their community will be greater in the next 10 years than ever before. We already know that women veterans are the fastest growing subset of American veterans. We must meet their need for gender specific resources and care. We are better positioned than most to lead these advances with our resources and commitment to solve tough problems. Among partner organizations and within our community we have a deeper commitment to women veterans because we have been in those boots. In my role as your Commander, I am impressed by the vision and talent I see already at work accomplishing great things. In the coming years, Chapter 48 can continue to broaden our impact and make a difference for many women who do not yet recognize themselves as veterans of merit, veterans who deserve the connection, resources, and camaraderie we can provide. I hope you will think about what we can all do to make the benefit of membership in this Chapter accessible to all women who have served--bringing veterans of diverse eras together, and, creating ways we can assist transitioning veterans to receive the services, benefits, honor, and respect they deserve. What matters most now is what we do next. Thank you for helping make Chapter 48 a fantastic organization now and for years to come.
