As a result, we suffer silently, sometimes HOPING that someone will come along and OFFER help without us having to ask for it. Have you ever been there? You take your car to the garage and receive the bad news that all of your brakes need to be replaced, and you don’t have the money to fix it right now. So you take the bus to work and just hope you’ll be able to save up the money to get the car fixed before school starts, when the kids will need to be shuttled all over the place. Or maybe you are at your wits end with how your strong- willed 2 year-old behaves, throwing food on the floor at meal times and throwing temper tantrums in the grocery store with every shopping visit. You’d like to ask some other parents for advice, but you reason that to ask for help would be admitting that you are not the best parent in the world, when it looks like all the other parents have everything figured out! We all have times in our lives when we are in need. Some- times it is a physical need (money to pay the utility bill or help with mowing the lawn after foot surgery), and sometimes we are in need of emotional/spiritual advice (parenting, co-worker relationships). When we try to go through life alone, suffering silently, we depart from God’s will for our lives. Why? 1. God wants us to swallow our pride, and BOAST in our weaknesses. By admitting that we need help, we show the world that we are dependent upon God and the body of Christ (2 Cor. 12:9). 2. We rob other people of the opportunity to serve. Assume for a minute that I am a Christian who is also an electri- cian. My boss has been working me to the bone the last week because the company is approaching a deadline. You might think that to call me and ask for help installing a ceiling fan in your baby’s room would be “inconveniencing” me, but what you don’t realize is that I LONG to do something with purpose today, where I can see that I’m making a difference in someone’s life. Coming over and wiring your ceiling fan so that your baby can sleep more peacefully tonight would be a delight that would refresh my soul! Don’t rob me of the chance to make a small difference in your life, not to mention gain some eternal reward at the same time! (Matt. 10:42) Joining a Life Group this fall will give you a place to go when you are in need. And even if the people in your group can’t help you directly, they can certainly pray for you and point you in the right direction. And then when you are back on your feet again, YOU will be the one that can be a blessing to someone else in their time of need (more on THAT next week…).

thank you

Marie and I wish to thank all of those who prayed for our family during my mom’s passing away this past weekend. We were both so moved by those who came to her visitation and funeral services, many of which did not know mom but came to encourage Marie and me. We are very grateful to them and thankful to be part of the Federated family.ScottJohnson
