Where is Lembah Bujang?

 The Bujang Valley or Lembah Bujang is a sprawling historical complex and

has an area of approximately 224 m2! "ituated near #erbo$ %edah$

between &unung 'erai in the north and #uda (i)er in the south$ it is the

richest archaeological area in #alaysia!

What was there before?

*nce the site was an empire now as the "ri)ijaya +mpier $ an #alay

ingdom dating se)eral centuries until the early ,2th century$ this is the

richest archaeological!

 These archaeological remains show that there was a -indu.Buddhist polity

here! /n sansrit the term bhujanga refer to serpent$ thus the name itself is

roughly translated into 0"erpent Valley0!The area consists of ruins that may

date more than 2111 years old! #ore than fty ancient tomb temples$ called

candi 3pronounce 0chandi0$ ha)e also been unearthed! The most impressi)e

and well.preser)ed of these is located in 5engalan Bujang$ #erbo! The

Bujang Valley 6rchaeological #useum is also located here! /n the area of

Bujang Valley nown as "ungai Batu$ exca)ation ha)e re)ealed jetty remains$

iron smelting sites$ and a clay bric monument dating bac to ,,167$ maing

it the oldest man.made structure to be recorded in "outheast 6sia!

What is there now ?

*n , 7ecember 21,8$ it was reported that$ a ,$211.year.old -indu Temple at

the site$ identied as 9andi :o! ,,$ had been demolished by a land

de)eloper!9andi ,, was one of the most ancient of the old %edah ingdom

and was amongst ,; registered candi! /n the face of public criticism$ the

%edah "tate &o)ernment sought to de<ect blame by claiming that it was

powerless to do anything because the land was pri)ately owned and further$

that the site had not been ga=etted as a historical site! 6fter the contro)ersy$

the Tourism and -eritage #inistry has agreed to consider ga=etting the

Bujang Valley as heritage site !
