Job Roles• Full time role: A full-time role means that you work minimum 35hours a week. It can vary how many hours you work as a full-time employee, it depends on the companies polices

and what hours they want you to work. An example of someone who would work full-time would be a creative director for a design agency. They need to work full-time so they can be present to oversee all design work that’s being produced and distributed to all their clients.

• Advantages: An advantage of working full time would be that you can still get paid when you take holidays (holiday pay) and also when you’re ill (sick pay). There is a certain amount of annual leave you can have when you work full-time, but it differs from company to company. The average amount of annual leave in the UK is 25 days (reference for annual leave: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annual_leave).

• Disadvantages: A disadvantage for working full-time would be that you cannot work flexible hours like a part-time or freelancer would. When you work full time you work 5 days a week or in some cases even more, it depends on the company or job role.

• Part time role: A part-time worker is someone who works fewer hours than a full-time worker. There is no specific number of hours that makes someone full or part-time. Usually a part time worker would work half a week for example, 2-3 days. A part-time worker will still have the same job roles as a full time worker, the only difference is the hours they work for. Working part-time can be for many reasons, someone may work part-time if they’re a student, working two jobs or have other personal responsibilities e.g. having a child. There is not a specific agency or company you have to work in to be part-time, normally all companies will accept part-time workers. An example of a part-time role would be an employee at a supermarket or other public sector based companies.

• Advantages: Working part-time means you can work flexible hours resulting having more time for other responsibilities you may have (e.g. being a student or parent)• Disadvantages: A disadvantage of working part-time is that you won’t get as much pay as a full-time worker. Due to doing less hours than a full-time worker you wont get as

big as salary as some of the full-time people you may work with.

• Freelancer: A freelancer is someone who doesn’t have a set in stone contact, they work as they please to gain money. They don’t have to be tied down to one specific company, they often work for multiple companies at the same time to produce work for the company resulting in money for themselves. Freelancers will get hired by different companies or agency do to work them that either their employees can do themselves (e.g. don’t have the skills of staff are absent) or in some cases they don’t have enough money to pay for a full-time employee, this is where they contact freelancers to do their work for them. And example where a freelancer would be used is for a design agency. A design agency will often use freelancers to help them with designs etc, essentially whatever the company needs the freelancer will cater for. A freelancer would mainly be used if the company have heavy work load or lack of staff.

• Advantages: An advantage of being a freelancer is that you can work when you want. There is no limit or minimum to the amount of hours you have to work, it’s up to them. Also you can work in your own environment, you don’t need to wake up early to go to an office and also you don’t have a boss or higher persons that control what you do.

• Disadvantages: A disadvantage of being a freelancer is that you’re not always guaranteed work. Because you’re not employed to a company or an agency, you have no confirmed jobs or hours you have to do. This can mean that your salary can vary from month to month, you do not have a steady income. Also another disadvantage is that you could get distracted from your work and you’re not in a working environment (e.g. office).

• Self-employed: Being self-employed means that you work for yourself instead of being an employee of another business. They earn a living directly from their own business or services instead of working to earn money for a company which pays them. An example of a some who is self-employed would be an owner of a small business mostly design and communication based (PR/Social media).

• Advantages: An advantage of being self-employed would that you’re your own boss. You decide how much money you get, how many holidays you have and you can decide the people you want to work for you.

• Disadvantage: A disadvantage of being self-employed is that when you start up your own business you’re not guaranteed you business to earn money, that’s the risk you take when you’re self employed and you start from the bottom.
