How Title 1 works

The federal government provides funding to school districts each year.

School districts identify schools that are eligible to receive funds.

Page 3: What is Title I?

The Title I school works to:

identify students most in need of educational help

set goals for improvement

measure student progress

develop programs that add to regular classroom instruction

involve parents in all aspects of the program

Targeted Programs

In a Targeted Title I Program all students within the school are given multiple assessments. These test results then determine which students require additional support and are ranked in order of need. The students who need the most help are put on the list first.

School-Wide programs

Schools can qualify for school-wide Title I programs where the funds and resources can benefit all students attending that school. Often, in these schools, the Title I teachers go into the regular classroom or work with flexible groups of students as the need arises.
