READINGS THIS WEEK

COLLECT Creator of the fruitful earth, you made us stew-ards of all things. Give us grateful hearts for all your goodness, and steadfast wills to use your bounty well, that the whole human family, today and in gen-erations to come, may with us give thanks for the riches of your creation. We ask this in the name of Je-sus Christ the Lord.

PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS Source of all life, the heaven and earth are yours, yet you have given us do-minion over all things. Re-ceive the symbols of our la-bour and love which we of-fer you this day, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION God of our hope, in this eucharist we find the source of all your blessings. Nour-ished in these holy myster-ies may we, with our lives, give you continual thanks and praise. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. A READING FROM THE BOOK OF DEUTERONOMY For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land with flowing streams, with springs and underground waters welling up in valleys and hills, a land of wheat and barley, of

vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey, a land where you may eat bread without scarcity, where you will lack noth-ing, a land whose stones are iron and from whose hills you may mine copper. You shall eat your fill and bless the Lord your God for the good land that he has given you. Take care that you do not forget the Lord your God, by failing to keep his commandments, his ordi-nances, and his statutes, which I am commanding you today. When you have eaten your fill and have built fine houses and live in them, and when your herds and flocks have multiplied, and your silver and gold is multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied, then do not exalt yourself, forget-ting the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, who led you through the great and terri-

ble wilderness, an arid wasteland with poisonous snakes and scorpions. He made water flow for you from flint rock, and fed you in the wilderness with manna that your ancestors did not know, to humble you and to test you, and in the end to do you good. Do not say to yourself, "My power and the might of my own hand have gotten me this wealth." But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, so that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your ancestors as he is doing today. DEUTERONOMY 8:7-18 A READING FROM THE SECOND LETTER OF PAUL TO THE CORINTHIANS The point is this: the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each of you must give as you have made up your

mind, not reluctantly or un-der compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by al-ways having enough of eve-rything, you may share abundantly in every good work. As it is written, "He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor; his righteousness endures forever." He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will sup-ply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteous-ness. You will be enriched in every way for your great generosity, which will pro-duce thanksgiving to God through us; for the render-ing of this ministry not only supplies the needs of the saints but also over-flows with many thanks-givings to God. Through the testing of this ministry you glorify God by your obedi-ence to the confession of the gospel of Christ and by

the generosity of your shar-ing with them and with all others, while they long for you and pray for you be-cause of the surpassing grace of God that he has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! 2 CORINTHIANS 9:6-15 THE HOLY GOSPEL OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO LUKE On the way to Jerusalem Je-sus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a vil-lage, ten lepers approached him. Keeping their distance, they called out, saying, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!" When he saw them, he said to them, "Go and show yourselves to the priests." And as they went, they were made clean. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. He prostrated himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him. And he was a Samari-

tan. Then Jesus asked, "Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they? Was none of them found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?" Then he said to him, "Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well." LUKE 17:11-19

PSALM 106:1-6, 19-23 Chant No. 9

Hallelujah! Give thanks to the Lord, for / he is good,* for his mercy en-/dures for ever. Who can declare the mighty acts / of the Lord* or show / forth his praise? Happy are those who / act with justice* and always do / what is right! Remember me, O Lord, with the favour you have / for your people,* and visit me with your / saving help; that I may see the prosperity of your elect and be glad with the gladness / of your people,* that I may glory with / your inheritance. We have sinned as our / forebears did;* we have done wrong / and dealt wickedly. Israel made a bull-/calf at Horeb* and worshipped a / molten image; and so they ex-/changed their Glory* for the image of an ox that / feeds on grass. They forgot / God their saviour,* who had done great / things in Egypt, wonderful deeds in the / land of Ham,* and fearful things at / the Red Sea. So he would have destroyed them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him / in the breach,* to turn away his wrath / from consuming them.

We are mounting a photo-graphic display to commemo-rate Remembrance Day. To ac-complish this, we are focusing on church members and rela-tives who served in WWI, WWII, or the Korean War. If you can contribute to the pro-ject in any way, please contact Howard D’Arcy at 902 830-1096.

Musically Speaking

Over the next few weeks and months,

under the direction of Eszter Horvath and Dr. James Burchill, we will continue our fine mu-sical traditions here at the Ca-thedral. You will notice some changes in style, music selec-tion, and liturgical expression. It is, I believe, helpful for us to experience a variety of music styles and traditions in order for us to prepare the vision of where we see ourselves grow-ing, musically, in the future.
