A message from the Bishop of Winchester I am delighted to share in welcoming you to Winchester Cathedral for your Cathedral Day. I pray it may be a special occasion for you and one that you will remember in the years to come. Pilgrims have made the journey to Winchester for hundreds of years to mark important events in their lives. Today we too come on pilgrimage thanking God for the blessings we have received and to pray that He will continue to guide us in the future. Here God welcomes us, and draws us deeper into New Life in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Bishop Tim

Introduction:

“Love One Another” Our Bible Reading - John chapter 15 Read by an adult or pupil from our schools.

12. My command is this: love each other as I have loved you. 13. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14. You are my friends if you do what I command. 15. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his

master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

16. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit – fruit that will last – and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.

17. This is my command: love each other. For the word of the Lord Reply: Thanks be to God

SONG – The Journey of Life The journey of life May be easy, may be hard, There’ll be danger on the way; With Christ at my side I’ll do battle as I ride, ‘Gainst the foe that would lead me astray; Chorus Will you ride, ride, ride With the King of Kings, Will you follow my leader true; Will you shout Hosanna To the lowly Son of God, Who died for me and you? My burden is light And a song is in my heart As I travel on life’s way; For Christ is my Lord And he’s given me his word That by my side he’ll stay; Chorus Will you ride, ride, ride With the King of Kings, Will you follow my leader true; Will you shout Hosanna To the lowly Son of God, Who died for me and you?

My command is this: love each other as I have loved you.

All stand to sing One more step along the world I go, One more step along the world I go, From the old things to the new Keep me travelling along with you And it's from the old I travel to the new, Keep me travelling along with you. Prayers LISTEN: Thank you, Lord,

for the good memories we have of our schools, for the ways in which we have learned and grown, For the teachers who have helped us on our way. Thank you for the freedoms we enjoy That others have fought and died for, And help us to be ready to serve others As they have served us. Amen.

ALL: Thank you for the past.

LISTEN: Dear God

We look forward to all you have in store for us in our new schools. Give us faith to rely on you in all the big tests ahead. Help us to be open to the future, to what you are calling us to discover and what you are calling us to do to build a better world, so that we may learn and grow together. Amen.

ALL: Thank you for our futures. LISTEN: We pray for our world wherever people suffer,

wherever they are unhappy, lonely or afraid. We pray especially for other children who today will go without food or shelter, or who are the victims of war. Help us to bring your care and love to them, so they too will know Your peace. Amen.

ALL: Thank you for Your gifts so we can make a difference in Your

world.

The Lord’s Prayer – led by Canon Roly

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
