The St. William of York Youth

Name the Saint!

My feast day is January 12th. I am a Frenchwoman who as a

young adult joined a group of women who did charitable

work. My job was teaching the poor. When a request came

from modern-day Montreal, Canada looking for teachers, I

immediately boarded a ship for the New World. My inspira-

tion for serving others was Mary, who dropped everything

to go visit her cousin Elizabeth. In the beginning I had no

students as life was hard on everyone, but I continued to

help people by working in a hospital and eventually opened

the first school. I believed that everyone should be educated

so I taught boys along with girls, poor children, Native

Americans, and adults. I taught practical life skills along

with academics. I acted as guardian for other young women

who came from France looking for husbands. I am called

“Mother of the Colony”. I founded the Congregation de

Notre Dame. Who am I?

The Institute of

Catholic Culture The Institute of Catholic Culture

is an adult catechetical organiza-

tion, faithful to the Magisterium

of the Catholic Church, and dedi-

cated to the Church’s call for a

new evangelization. The Institute

seeks to fulfill its mission by of-

fering educational programs

structured upon the classical lib-

eral arts and by offering opportu-

nities in which authentic Catholic

culture is experienced and lived.

The following is one of the many

up coming events we offer.

Power & Wisdom: The Philoso-

phy of St. Justin Martyr

Kenneth Howell, Ph.D.

Sunday, January 14 Dinner @ 6:00 PM; lecture to begin at 7:00

PM. No RSVP required. Our Lady of Hope Church Hall,

46639 Algonkian Pkwy, Sterling,

VA 20165

St. Justin Martyr stands as a per-

ennial witness to the power and

wisdom of Jesus Christ (1 Cor

1:24) and His Church. A philoso-

pher searching for the true way to

live, he studied all the claims to

truth around him and then em-

braced the Christian gospel. His

synthesis of faith and reason laid

the foundation for a European in-

tellectual culture from which we

still benefit today.
