Dear St. William the Abbot Families,
It’s so exciting to see the many ways in which we are bringing back much of the fun and activities that make SWSsuch a special place! We’ve been enjoying events such as the Book Fair, Middle School Sports, field trips (in earlychildhood, so far), the NJHS Induction Ceremony, the Student Council Induction Mass, and today we celebrate theMission Mass with our first graders. We have reinstated the full-time lunch program, with the help of our wonderfulvolunteers. We look forward to the 8th Grade Ring Ceremony next month, along with Thanksgiving Feasts, andBreakfast with Santa is in the works for December! Never satisfied with complacency, we have also brought back ourEnrichment Clubs program, and we will be adding another Club under the direction of our Parish Music DirectorElizabeth Woods for our 3rd-8th graders. Information will be sent home next week. Most exciting of all, we areworking to create a partnership with Holy Trinity High School to bring back our Drama Club. The final details arebeing hammered out, but we do hope to begin in November! Say a prayer and keep your fingers crossed! A specialTHANK YOU to those parents who reach out with words of support and encouragement in recognition of the workthat goes into reclaiming the greatness that is St. William the Abbot School. Please come join us in the work! Ourchildren deserve nothing less!
The 2nd “Love for Laney” Dress Down Day is Thursday, October 28th. A $5 donation is suggested, but please knowthat we are grateful for any donation, large or small. Again, please wear purple! Friday, October 29th is also a DressDown Day for Halloween! Orange and black are the colors of the day! Early childhood parents should check withteachers about costumes and parties. Looking forward to a spooktacular day! Obviously, no monetary donations forFriday’s Dress Down, let’s just have some fun! Also, our 2nd annual Pumpkin-Decorating Contest begins next week!
Speaking of fun, and yet another event returning to SWS, the NJHS is hosting Trunk or Treat for students in Nurserythrough 3rd grade! The event is held in the Washington Avenue Parking Lot from 3:30pm-5:00pm on October 29th.Please see the flyer in this edition of the Weekly Envelope!
We have begun the Winter Uniform Season. No worries on items that are backordered. Flynn O’Hara, like manycompanies, is experiencing delays in production and delivery. Happy to announce that slacks have been added to thegirls’ Winter Uniform offerings, which we hope will be helpful on those cold winter days. Our young men enjoyedthe addition of shorts last year, therefore, it’s only fair that our young women receive equal time in terms ofweather-appropriate clothing items!
The HSA is offering a new fundraiser for the upcoming Thanksgiving season! Please take a look in this edition of theWeekly for the SWS Thanksgiving Pie and Bread Fundraiser Order Form. Please consider purchasing a pie or two forthe Thanksgiving table, as well as making a purchase in support of the SWA Parish Social Ministry for those whomay have fallen on hard times or are financially less fortunate. What a wonderful way to share our blessings duringthis season of giving thanks! We are thankful for your generosity!
A friendly reminder that school is closed for students this Friday, October 22nd for a Teacher ProfessionalDevelopment Day, focusing on iReady Diagnostic Data. Have a great long weekend!
Peace,Mrs. Bricker

MORNING STAR INITIATIVE RECEIVES $1 MILLION GIFT TO HELP REVITALIZE
LONG ISLAND’S CATHOLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
Uniondale, NY—Michael Pascucci and his family have donated $1 million to Tomorrow’s Hope
Foundation (tomorrowshopefoundation.org) in support of the Long Island Catholic School
revitalization effort known as the Morning Star Initiative (morningstarinitiative.org), or MSI, led by
the Diocese of Rockville Centre’s Department of Education, the Marianist Brothers, and
Tomorrow’s Hope.
Launched in January 2020, MSI is a forward-looking plan to strengthen Long Island’s Catholic
elementary schools by restoring a robustly Catholic culture, academic excellence, and fiscally
sustainable schools. Pascucci’s contribution will advance MSI’s mission by supporting long-term
investments in tuition assistance, technology, academics, recruitment and enrollment, and school
leaders and teachers.
Since MSI was launched, the Catholic elementary schools have already seen strong results. Math
and reading scores, for example, improved significantly during the 2020-2021 school year despite
the challenges of distance learning. Moreover, elementary school enrollment increased slightly
this year, the first year-over-year increase in Nursery through 8th grade enrollment in two decades.
“We launched Morning Star with the aim of achieving a ‘new dawn’ for Catholic education on Long
Island,” says Brother Tom Cleary, Chief Revitalization Officer, Morning Star Initiative and
President of Chaminade High School, Mineola. “Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of
Michael Pascucci and other donors who have answered the call to support this effort, I am proud
to say that this vision is now becoming a reality.”
“The Marianists have an extraordinary track record on Long Island, and I am very confident in
Brother Tom and the Marianist Brothers who are leading this effort,” said Pascucci. “I am hopeful
that other individuals and organizations will support this cause to help ensure our Catholic schools
have a bright future.”
Born on Long Island, Pascucci attended St. Mary’s Elementary School in Manhasset. He later
became the first member of his family to attend college when he enrolled at Bucknell University
and went on to earn an MBA from New York University’s School of Business. Soon after, he
began his career as an entrepreneur and launched several successful business ventures,
including Oxford Resources Corp., one of the nation's largest independent automobile leasing
and finance companies; WLNY television station; the private investment company, Duck Pond
Associates; and the Sebonack Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y., which he still owns today.
“The education I received in Catholic grade school gave me the foundation I needed to attend
college and succeed in my career,” said Pascucci. “I strongly believe in supporting this effort for
our Catholic schools so they can continue offering those same life-changing opportunities to future
generations of children growing up on Long Island.”
Under the leadership of Brother Thomas Cleary, S.M. and with the support of Tomorrow’s Hope
Foundation, more than $3 million has been raised in support of the Morning Star Initiative’s $10
million goal. The MSI Team is continuing to raise additional funds from individuals and foundations
to reach the Morning Star Initiative’s $10 million target.

Hello SWS Families! This year the SWS HSA is continuing with Boon Supply and Kringle Candles, for our Fall fundraiser. These two vendors offer wonderful items with something for everyone! Boon Supply offers top quality, beautifully designed, family friendly and earth friendly items. Kringle Candles are clean burning, ultra-fragranced and made in New England! They offer candles, accessories, and other items from Meadow Farms. This year our fundraiser will start on October 18th and run until November 12th. You will receive two separate packets, one from Boon Supply and another from Kringle with each of their catalogs. Each packet will contain the company’s instructions on how to set up online seller accounts, place sale orders, and reach out online to family and friends. Please know that Boon Supply orders can only be placed online. Kringle has the option to place online orders or use the traditional paper form, however, we would encourage online ordering whenever possible. We thank you for your continued support to our great school. If you have any questions, please contact me via email [email protected] or phone/text (516) 317-4583. Thank You, Antoinette Russell Boon/Kringle Fundraiser Chairperson
