Weekly Notes
1st September 2019
11th Sunday after Trinity

Contemporary Issues - Sermon Series Starting in September, we will be looking once a month on a
Sunday at a contemporary issue, and then a week or two
later there will be a chance to get together on a Sunday
evening to explore the issue in more detail. We are doing
this because we are aware that 10-20 minutes on a Sunday
is not enough time to explore in detail some of the big
contemporary issues we want to address.
So, at our morning services on Sunday 15th September we will be thinking
about a Christian response to Government, Politics and Brexit, and then
at 7.00pm on Sunday 29th September, there will be an opportunity to
consider this issue in greater detail, through a longer discussion.
EU referendum - how did you vote - and why? In advance of looking at a Christian view of Government, politics and Brexit on 15th September,
I’m interested in knowing how we as a church voted
in the EU Referendum in 2016, and more importantly
why we voted the way we did.
I invite you to anonymously fill in the form by the box
on the welcome table in the church, and put it in the
box. Please tell me WHY you voted the way you did - this will feed into our
thinking about this in September. Thank you! Paul
‘Ride and Stride 2019’ The Hampshire and Islands Historic Churches
Trust (HIHCT) is organizing its annual
fundraising event called ‘Ride and Stride’ on
Saturday 14th September. In this event
participants are sponsored to cycle or walk
round a number of open churches. The sponsorship money raised is then
divided into ½ to HIHCT and ½ to their Church.
If you fancy a bit of a challenge to do cycling, or walking or simply help us
keep the church open from 10.00am to 3.00pm for participants from other
churches then please let the St. Faiths organiser, Colin Dixon, know either via the Church Office or on 023 9255 6889.
Mothers’ Union Meeting in the Lowry Room The regular meetings resume on Thursday 5th September at 2.15pm. All
members and visitors alike are very welcome to attend.

New Musical Setting
for the Parish Eucharist From next Sunday 8th September we will be using a
new musical setting for the Parish Eucharist, written by our Music Director, Richard Dewland.
To get to know the music, please do have a listen
to all the new music on the church website:
www.stfaithslee.org.uk/new-music-for-the-parish-eucharist/
‘Bring and Share’ Lunch next Sunday We will be holding a ‘Bring and Share’ Lunch at 12.30pm on Sunday 8th
September - an opportunity to catch up after the summer! Do come along,
bring some food, and share with others.
(There is also another ‘Bring and Share’ Lunch on Sunday 6th October, as we
celebrate Harvest).
New hymn book Last Sunday for the first time we used our new hymn book,
Ancient & Modern - Hymns for Refreshing Worship. If you would
like to have a look at a copy, please do so - they are stored
on the shelf unit near the south doors.
Just to remind you - we have actually been using this book for
the last two years, but have been printing hymn words where
needed. Now we won’t need to do that, as we have copies of
the book.

Message from Cecily Parkinson Five weeks ago I could not have hoped to be sharing good news with you so
soon. With the brilliant skills of the Neurological team at Southampton
General Hospital, and your prayers, my grandson Thomas is making a
remarkable recovery. There is still improvement to be made on his balance
and memory, and we pray that with time these will heal. We cannot thank all
of you enough for your prayers and support. Cecily, Thomas and family
