Welcome to our Amazing Parish! We are an amazing parish because we create and nurture joyful disciples of Christ. A Catholic becomes an Intentional Disciple after recognizing they have been personally chosen by the Lord to enter an intimate relationship with Him. This relationship relies on the Holy Spirit and embraces a lifelong sacramental journey of prayer, service, evangelization and communally receiving Jesus Christ through Scripture and Eucharist. Thus, Intentional Disciples imitate Christ in everything they do on a daily basis. 1708 Horseshoe Drive • Pueblo, Colorado • (719) 542-9248 http://www.ctkpueblo.org • facebook.com/christthekingcatholicparish

It finally happened! The chiller is up and running. The parish hall, sanctuary, and front pews finally got some cool, just in time for Chuck Vega's Mass of Resurrec-tion. It was an eight day project. Here are pictures of the new chiller being hoisted to the roof; the previ-ous one that served us for 21 years is seen on the ground.

SHARE THE BURDEN “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). These words of our Savior seem to be in stark contrast to the previous chapter from the same Gospel, when we were told that if we do not take up our crosses, we are not worthy of Christ. Connecting these two messages might help us on our faith journeys. Being a follower of Christ surely means that we must embrace the cross, in its mystery of both suf-fering and triumph. This is something that we need not do alone, for the burden is often too heavy for us to carry by ourselves. Who, then, do we turn to? We can turn to the Body of Christ—the community of disciples gathered for worship. When we find the burden too heavy, let us remember that we can share that burden with our Christian sisters and brothers, who can help bring us rest. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

[Editor’s Note: George Washington never heard this prayer. The U.S. was very anti-Catholic until the 20th Century and Archbishop Carrol was not invited to the Inauguration.]

For the inauguration of George Washington as the first President of the United States, the first bishop and archbishop of the United States, Archbishop John Carroll (brother of Charles Carroll, who signed the Declaration of Independence), composed this prayer:

PRAYER FOR GOVERNMENT

We pray you, O God of might, wisdom, and justice, through whom authority is rightly administered, laws are enacted, and judgment decreed, assist with your Holy Spirit of counsel and fortitude the President of these United States, that his administration may be conducted in righteousness, and be eminently useful to your people, over whom he presides; by encouraging due respect for virtue and religion; by a faithful execution of the laws in justice and mercy; and by restraining vice and immorality. Let the light of your divine wisdom direct the deliberations of Congress, and shine forth in all the proceedings and laws framed for our rule and government, so that they may tend to the preservation of peace, the promotion of national happiness, the increase of industry, sobriety, and useful knowledge; and may perpetuate to us the blessing of equal liberty. We pray for the governor of this state, for the members of the assembly, for all judges, magistrates, and other officers who are appointed to guard our political welfare, that they may be enabled, by your powerful protection, to discharge the duties of their respective stations with honesty and ability. We recommend likewise, to your unbounded mercy, all our fellow citizens throughout the United States, that we may be blessed in the knowledge and sanctified in the observance of your most holy law; that we may be preserved in union, and in that peace which the world cannot give; and after enjoying the blessings of this life, be admitted to those which are eternal. Grant this, we beseech you, O Lord of mercy through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
